The amateur 1981
Excellent narrative based around an American whose girlfriend has been shot by terrorists in Munich. The CIA who he works for have no interest in tracking down the terrorists now hiding out in Prague, so he goes on his own pursuit to bring retribution. The father of the murdered woman is a Jewish survivor of Auschwitz, so there is a crossover in a sense of one wrong in a previous generation & this one, with a European location for each. This film being made in 1981 has the storytelling & character development common at that time. Slow enough to form relationships with the characters & settings yet quick action in the chase scenes. A looking glass experience into life in authoritarian eastern Europe at that time. The extra aspect to this story is that the main character is being pursued by the Czech authorities, the terrorists & the official CIA who have turned their backs on this renegade.
