  • Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Fun seeing so many recognizable actors like the guy that plays Q in Star Trek, Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince, and even just extras I've seen from Gilmore Girls, Friends, etc. Kirk Cameron did a good job portraying his character pretty believably. The premise is kind of dumb and the family members are very stereotypical rich snobs. Just a silly little Disney movie! Still only a 5/10 though which to me is "okay, but probably will not watch again". I saw a list ranking all the Disney Channel's Original movies starting in 1997 and this was the earliest one I could find on Disney +.

After seeing You Lucky Dog, I realized something. The first two times Cameron tried to abjure acting like a dog. But it didn't function. It's like he had 3 strikes against him. Lucky got overexcited when it came to a bone buried in the yard, having to urge to dig it up like crazy and defacing furniture. Cameron went along like a follower on a leash. That's strike 1. When they were getting ready to go to the mall, Lucky did it again and Cameron went along with it. Strike 2. Leading up to the mall, Lucky got worked up when it came to food. Cameron didn't even try to abjure it. Strike 3. After 3 strikes, he is stuck acting like a dog. Cameron, that is 3 strikes. Go ahead and act like a dog when Lucky gets overexcited or angry. That's right, let it all out. Could somebody please put him on a leash? He wants to go to the dog park, let him go. He wants to fetch something, let him go fetch something. He wants a belly rub, give it to him. He wants to roll over and play dead, let him do it. If somebody wants to express themselves by drama, or writing, let them do it. Don't stop them. It is a good thing that Cameron let out Lucky's feelings and expressed himself, even if he does look asinine doing it. He enjoyed it. It made him feel good. He let it all out. Cameron did the right thing. The first half was somewhat uncalled for,but the second half was necessary. He shouldn't care what people think. So what if he acts like a dog? He doesn't care. It is nothing but the dog in him. Let him express it. I have something to say to Cameron. Cameron, you did the right thing in the court room. At first, it was somewhat uncalled for, but maybe you were trying to let out your feelings. But now, you realize that you have to get use to it and letting out the truth feels awesome. It may creep you out., but you'll love it. If you have the urge to roll over and fetch, go ahead and do it. If you want to enjoy a belly rub, go ahead. If you have the urge to chase away greedy relatives, sic them. Cameron, you should always wear a leash if you are acting like a dog. If you are acting like a dog, then you need to wear a leash as a restraint. That would be so funny, just like begging for a treat, bone, or a chocolate bar. Spending time with that dog drove Cameron super crazy, especially when he was digging for a bone. If wanting to express yourself really bad is driving you crazy, let it out. Cameron did what he had to do. He might as well lick someone in the face and be done with it. Whenever trying to prove something, sometimes acting like a proves a point. You are a good doggy, Cameron. You gave yourself a treat and the dog as well by letting out the truth and protecting the dog. Good boy, Cameron. I am just glad nobody hit him with a rolled up newspaper when he displayed bad dog behavior. That would have been more hilarious.
  • You Lucky Dog is the film where Kirk Cameron chews the scenery, literally. Something actors love to do in the figurative sense. Is this why he accepted this Disney film.

Cameron plays a dog therapist because as a kid he could read the mind of a canine. But he grew out of it and then began just faking it to pay the rent. One fine day he gets a rich man Hansford Rowe as a client who dies thereafter. Because he liked Cameron and his dog Lucky liked Cameron he left his estate to the dog with Cameron as his guardian with Chelsea Noble as the lawyer for the estate.

But he also has three worthless relatives who were cut out of the will, John DeLancie, Taylor Negron, and Christine Cavanaugh. They also have a lawyer whom jokes are made about in Granville Van Deusen.

Cameron has bonded with Lucky so well that not only does he read his mind, but when he gets excited Cameron starts reverting to the canine himself. It's that behavior that Van Deusen is hoping to get the will overturned in a trial right out of Mister Deeds Goes To Town. You know how that went.

You Lucky Dog gets over the top in many places, but it's still a decent enough film. I wonder why Kirk Cameron didn't continue with the Disney studio?
  • What if you knew what a Dog was really saying and thinking? Maybe it could earn you millions as it does in this film. A neat plot, with a good way to portray it. The acting is a little stiff by everyone, except Kirk Cameron and Noble in the film. They were MUCH too good actors/actress' to get a role in this silly film. I must say that Kirk Cameron did a wonderful role in this film, and acted his part perfect. He also knew how to act a Dog, which isn't easy. For some people, this movie may be a little Far Fetched, but all together, it is a good, funny, entertaining movie, with Kirk Cameron as a great actor! Don't bark up the wrong tree, just sit back and watch a good fun movie with all.
  • Even before Disney Channel became a lot more of a laughing stock when it comes to movies, it used to be a simple collection of kids films. And for this as a debut, it is pretty weird. But honestly, not in a good way. You Lucky Dog has debuted Disney Channel Original Movies in a confusing and uncomfortable start. At first, I thought it would just be a your typical dog movie. But it was actually more than that, just a series of craziness whenever John acts like a dog apparently when Lucky gets excited. Which would make the jokes at best, a hit and miss. And it would affect how when I say confusing, I'm talking about the story. The actors have shown they were having fun with this film, but the characters are pretty childish. And the editing shows this belongs as straight to television quality. But it is rather harmless and couldn't really be angry with this because it is something kids will love. But if you want to see what a Disney Channel movie debut is, then I guess I won't stop you. Even if Lucky is worth millions, I'd rather spend time with normal dogs instead.

In the movie You Lucky Dog, Kirk Cameron did a great job even though there was a difference between Growing Pains and the movie. In Growing Pains, he acted serious, but in You Lucky Dog, he acted brainless. He looked really pathetic acting like a dog, especially when the dog got a belly rub in court and Cameron channeled it. I'll never forget the scene when him and Lucky were in the restaurant and Cameron ate the way a dog would eat. I was shocked and disgusted because that's bad table manners. Those are the worst table manners I've ever seen in my life. But it was pretty fun to watch. Here's one thing I think is funny. If people are going to put the dog on a leash, they should put Cameron on a leash too. That way, when he acts like an excited dog, people can get him to subside. Cameron acted like a pathetic follower like a dog on a leash. If someone told him to bark like a dog, he'd do it. If the dog was begging for a treat, Cameron would beg for one also. How asinine is that? I'm just glad that Cameron didn't roll over and play dead. This is worse than in 8th grade when I heard a language arts teacher let kids run around with rolled up newspapers and hit other students with them all period. That's also pathetic and I was glad that I never had that teacher before. But if I did, I would not roll over and play dead. As far as the movie, it is still great to watch even though Cameron looked really pathetic acting like a dog. I'd give it a 6 out of 10 because I wouldn't consider that a perfect 10 based on the stupidity.

I came across this movie completely unintentionally one Sunday afternoon last month, while flipping channels, and saw Cameron on his hands and knees, panting and growling with a manic look in his eye. It threw me, and after I got over the initial cringe of watching a grown man act like an excited dog, I settled in and had a fun hour. He actually does a passable job of "channeling" a dog, and I can definitely imagine his kids giggling and laughing at the sight of him...which is worth the possible indignities. :) There was one scene, in particular, that I was hooting at, however. At one point, the lawyer that Noble (his real-life wife), is playing, rubs the dog's stomach while the man is "channeling" the animal. Cameron's reaction is priceless; it's not just the dog reacting, it's the man, too. Had a great time. It's not deep, and it's rather silly, but it's a lot of fun.
  • This is a classic dog and teen story, nothing like Lassie, but from the heart! This movie is about a rich man who dies and leaves his wealth to his dog, to the dismay of his greedy relatives. A dog psychiatrist is brought to care for the dog, and they figure out the real cause of the owner's demise. I hope to see this movie on DVD soon, not for me but for others who will enjoy this great film. I gave it an 8 because it isn't a film for theaters, but it is a great Disney channel movie! One of the best Disney Channel movies I've ever seen. This cast is a great one even though they aren't a cast seen every day. Only one bad thing is that you cant find this movie unless you tapped it! Good thing I did!

Cameron does a great job in this TV movie. It is so hilarious to see a grown man acting like a dog. When you think about it, it can kind of make you laugh before you even see the movie. It has some great acting, and so this makes it an enjoyable movie to watch.

I just realized not too long ago that Kirk Cameron was in this movie. I saw it when it first aired and thought that Jack(Cameron) was cute. I recently started watching Growing Pains and Mike looked oddly familiar. I was stunned to find that Jack and Mike were the same person!

    **spoilers**

Anyway, this is a great movie. I haven't seen it for years but I still remember this one scene: Jack and Lucky are on a couch at the end the day. Jack takes his shoes and socks off and puts them on the floor. Lucky takes a sock and plays with it. Jack says,"Great! I buy a house full of toys for you and all you play with is a sock!"

I love this movie and suggest you catch it on TV if it's ever on. 9/10
