The first four episodes of season 2 don't seem to have done much. And what it has done, it's done over. And over. And over again.
1. London is under attack by the Raven Union.
2. The Raven Union is developing poison gas.
3. Alfred is having second thoughts. about a lot of things.
4. Thomas and Martha had issues, but they've resolved them.
5. Bet has picked up a girlfriend of sorts, and is still nuts.
And that's it. There have been some minor subplots along the way sure. You can't do approximately four hours of television without tossing in something else. But nothing substantive has happened. And maybe it's not supposed to, and the first four episodes are just set-up for the last six. And there have been some good performances along the way. Jack Bannon never fails, Dorothy Atkinson is good, and nobody is bad.
But story-wise, the production staff just keeps hitting the same beats over. And over. And over again. I don't remember season 1 being so repetitive. If for no other reason that I probably wouldn't have tuned in to watch season 2 if it was. Or maybe I would have just tuned in for the performances and the music. I really dig the opening theme, for some reason.
Like I said, I hope they _do_ something with the back half of season 2, when it hits our screens. I'll watch it, to see if they do something. But this season so far, they're moving at a glacier pace. And it's not that thrilling to watch after four episodes.
But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. What do you think?
