  • Fantastic show with such a low rating really. Well written characters with well written goals, correct visuals and the entire thing is sprinkled with soft humor and lots of emotions. And the OPs and EDs, they are also fantastic, one of the best ones I ever heard. Definitely worthy for you time.

This one left me with slightly confused feelings. If the creators focused only on the love story between Koko and Banri, this wouldn't happen. The problem was that they introduced Linda as Banri's past love and the flashbacks proved how much he actually loved her. Even after losing memories and getting into a relationship with Koko, the love for Linda was still there. And she clearly shared the same feelings, just was too scared to tell him, thinking it was already too late because he forgot everything. Koko was great, she really changed from obsessive from amazing girlfriend, but honestly, I didn't think it was even fair to her fro Banri to want and be with her, especially since he still had feelings for the other one. With time, Banri's feelings for Koko grow, but even with that, there's still that love toward Linda. So, yeah, although I did actually like both girls, I feel like he and Linda had more chemistry. I don't know. Maybe it's just me? So, I kind of liked this anime, and I'm not mad or disappointed that he ended up with Koko, but it did leave me with confused feelings.
  • Golden Time being a slice of life Anime, has a lot of Drama in it. The show is very slow paced and at some places quite boring and repetitive.

But the show was successful in bringing out the intended message i.e., about how we can overcome any crisis in our life with the help of some people around us and belief in oneself. Overall, I enjoyed the friendship between all the characters and all the events in general.
  • It's great that's what I can say. It's really fun to watch this anime to kill some time.
  • Warning: Spoilers
When protagonist Tada Banri starts at university he is completely lost but soon he meets makes friends with Mitsuo Yanagisawa who is also lost. He also meets the beautiful Koko Kaga; a girl who is only attending the university because she is in love with Mitsuo… unfortunately the feelings are not reciprocated! Banri and Koko become friends and eventually she gets over Mitsuo and starts a relationship with Banri. Things won't be simple though as Banri has a secret; following an accident he has lost all his memories up to that point and doesn't realise that the girl who runs the club he and Koko joined is actually an old flame. When he starts to learn more about the past he fears what will happen if his memories return… will his old personality take over again and will he forget about Koko?

This romantic comedy was more fun than I expected; amnesia may be one of the most overused clichés in anime but here it serves the story well and leads to some heart wrenching moments… right up until the end I was unsure how things would work out. There are also plenty of laughs to be had… especially when the 'Tea Party Club' are involved! Things may get more serious towards the end but the change of mood is done in a way that doesn't make one think it feels like a different show. The characters are likable with a great central cast and a well-rounded cast of supporting characters. Overall I really enjoyed this series, feeling that it got better as it progressed; I'd certainly recommend it to anybody wanting a bittersweet romantic comedy.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.
  • Golden Time is a very nicely written romance anime with a new type of and a nice story. It is about a guy Tada Banri having lost his memories in an accident meeting an obsessive and immature as well as possessive girl Kaga Kouko and them ending up falling in love.

Unlike another romance anime, this one sees their journey of being a couple too and the challenges that they face because of the girl's obsessiveness and the boy's dark past.

The story is a dark one but you would feel it as a very light story while you watch because of the humor that the girl as well as their friends use. Also the soundtracks and the flashback scenes are very convincing.Surely the anime justifies it's title because when you finish the anime you will actually understand the reason behind the title. So guys I highly recommend this wonderful anime for you.

    Warning: Spoilers
Tada Banri is newly admitted in the Tokyo university. Shortly after his high school graduation, he had an accident and lost all of his memories of his school days. In the college, he met Koko Kaga and fell in love with her. Around the same time, he also encountered his senpai Linda and befriended her. It was unknown to him that she was his best friend and his crush during his highschool days. As the series progresses, Banri deals with his slowly re-emerging memories, which often come into conflict with a relationship that blooms between him and Kaga. The anime shows how Banri and his new friends deal with this situation and how Banri manages to overcome his past ghost.

The story is very beautifully told. Anybody would be able relate to it. What the characters are going through you would be able to understand that almost each time. You would even feel for them. However, it is bit irritating when the scenes are overly melodramatic. At times, the kind of reactions that characters have don't feel necessary.

This anime can be recommended to those who like Rom-com.
  • Tada Banri, a newly admitted student at a private law school in Tokyo, found himself completely lost after the opening ceremony, trying to find his way to the freshman orientation. At that moment, he ran into another lost freshman from the same school, Yanagisawa Mitsuo, and they hit it off at once. Somehow arriving at their intended goal just on time, there appeared in front of the two a beautiful girl holding a bouquet of roses. The girl then whacked Mitsuo across the face with the bouquet and handed the flowers over to him. "Freshman, congratulations", was all she said, and then left. The stylish, well dressed, perfect woman that had swung at Mitsuo was his childhood friend, Kaga Kouko. As children they had promised to marry each other one day, fulfilling their dreams. In order to escape from her, Mitsuo had gone out secretly and taken the examination for this well known private college, but now she showed up in the freshman orientation hall. She too had taken the law school entrance examination, catching up with him.
  • GT starts with Men In Black. FBI? Mid 20th century IBM employees? Mormons? Nope. They're law students. But what kind of a lawyer can you be if you fall apart over a female stalker? Law student, Yanagisawa Mitsuo, can't handle his cloying childhood friend, Kaga Kouko. She's determined to marry him, and nothing can distract Kaga from her goals. Tada Banri becomes Mitsuo's friend. When Banri first sees Kaga he is blown away: She's gorgeous. Satou Takaya, Oka Chinami, and Linda (Banri's hometown bestie) round out the group of friends.

Kaga, our FL, comes over as imbalanced because she's chasing a guy - and she's well over the line; she's into the mental illness zone. It's uncomfortable for the men around her and for the viewer. She finally starts to understand the psychology underneath her motivations. She realizes it was all about her and going after something she wanted. She never thought about the man at all - not who he is and what he wants, at least. The odd thing about attraction is that if it's real, it's always mutual. When it's not mutual, it's usually a situation in which one person likes the idea of the other person, not that person h/herself.

"I decided I want to move on. I don't want to be persecuted by things that happened to me anymore. I want to live. I want to live my life," Banri moans. The concept of self, who we are, and what we are, is brought into question. Banri Tada suffered a traumatic fall a few years back and has had amnesia since then. He doesn't remember the person that he was prior to the accident. In fact, he sees /that/ Banri as another human being all together - a complete stranger. He feels out of place in his own body, and he knows that his family and friends miss the old version of him. It's isolating. As time goes by, the more upset and anxious his loved ones seem because he is not the old Banri - They want that °other° person, they don't want °him°. He doesn't know that Banri, and he doesn't want to lose who he is now.

Are we us without our memories? When Banri woke up from his accident he was a clean slate. Part of who we are in the present is our past mistakes, failures, and successes, along with the good and bad times. Our memories are a collection of the result of our choices, but they shouldn't control what and who we are. The past can boost us, but it can also shackle us. Even our past successes can shackle us if we get trapped in our "Glory Days". Banri gets to start over, and any of us can do that. We need to be free to be the best version of ourselves. "Free your mind," the sages, En Vogue, tell us: "The rest will follow." We see Banri's old self as a forlorn ghost feeling forgotten and left out. Ironically, Banri does to his old self what others do to his new self (just wishing this Banri would go away and the other Banri would stay) until he is finally able to shake free of the mold.

He isn't the only one that shakes free. Kokuo finally learns to let go as well. She thinks about the other person, finally, and that is also oddly freeing. Too much self-focus will only lead to anxiety and despair. Helping someone can, at times, help the helper more than the receiver. We need to always be improving, but also to forget about ourselves. It's a balancing act.

GT is 25 24-minute episodes. The art and the English dubbing are VG. The song for the closing credits is quite nice. The opening song is Japanese pink-pop. One Scooby-Doo Snack they threw in is a character named Nana, who is clearly based on the punker, Nana, from the popular anime of the same name. It's a fun shout-out. It is a pleasant series to watch, with plenty that's good, but it's also a bit bland, even though Kaga's antics generate anxiety. More than a romance, the primary appeal is hanging with a group of school buds. The episodes roll by quickly. I kept thinking that I would ditch the show, but each episode put me in the mood to watch another one the following day. I never caught binge-fever, so one-a-day was the right pace. It is not a waste of time, but there are anime that are worth your time before this one, particularly if romance is what you are looking for. For example: Toradora is an excellent romance in every way. Real Girl is a fun HS story about how a nerd, who only likes 2D girls, scores a hottie. Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun is HS romantic anime in which a young artist helps out her crush with his monthly girls manga story. Interestingly, this nerd can write about teen girls in love, but in reality he has no clue what's going on around him. Love- Chunibyo And Other Delusions - Heartthrob is one that cannot be denied. It starts out good and it keeps getting better. It's truly an excellent show with some superb romantic moments scattered in the mix. Finally, Maid Sama is a top-tier romcom, hand drawn or not. It's in the highly rewatchable category. The real currency in GT is how damaged people move past their mistakes and regrets to grow. That storyline is always golden.

  • Warning: Spoilers
Released in 2013, Golden Time is a romantic comedy/romantic drama anime that follows the main character Tada Banri, a college student (yes, you read that right, a college student) in his struggle between two lives.

Right off the bat, this show establishes that it is going to be a bit different from the average high-school-where-female-uniforms-require-a-short-skirt setting found throughout a majority of anime. This is pretty much seen from the dead-beginning of the very first episode, as the secondary main character Koko Kaga walks up to the central character Tada Banri's newfound friend, Mitsuo Yanigasawa, while wearing a frilly-looking dress with a long skirt as some rather elegant-sounding music plays in the background, and slaps Mitsuo back and forth with a bouquet of roses. She then tosses the poor abused flower bouquet onto Mitsuo as she gets back into the car she came from, saying, "I removed the thorns!" This scene pretty much leaves me with a moment of "So that just happened.", which is an almost-recurring sentence I found myself saying as I continued to watch this show. Anyway, it's soon explained that the reason why Koko pulled a flower-bouquet-hit-and-run is because Mitsuo evidently came to this college to get as far away from her as possible. See, it turns out that Kaga and Mitsuo were childhood friends, but Koko was always super inflexible when it came to taking "no" for an answer, as she is determined to spend the rest of her life with Mitsuo. In other words, she's been stalking Mitsuo since they were children. Now, this might seem like an attempt at making Koko Kaga a comic relief type character at first glance, combined with her name that is pretty obviously (at least to me) a reference to the brand of cereal called Cocoa Puffs mascot's catchphrase, "Coocoo for cocoa puffs!", but as the series progresses, it once again proves that barely anything is predictable. It's definitely one of those rare instances where you can try to predict what will happen next, but you will most likely be wrong.

In fact, the show as a whole seems to really enjoy hitting the audience with an extreme - and I do mean EXTREME - amount of heavy-hitting or otherwise blatantly unexpected plot twists. It is for this same reason that I will also refrain from revealing anything that may spoil the show outside of the 'struggle between two lives' I mentioned regarding Tada Banri earlier. Apparently, he was involved in an accident of some sort back in his high school years that left him with complete amnesia. He has no idea whatsoever about what he used to be like prior to attending college. Personally, I absolutely freaking love the idea of the timeline split this allows the show to have. The aformentioned amnesia Banri suffers from was pretty much the entire reason this show was able to play around with its entire setting as part of the main story. Like I said before, it follows an entirely adult cast - most of which are attending college - but thanks to Banri's amnesia, it also implements what I saw as an extremely creative form of storytelling: At many points it flashes back to another story altogether, that being the story from before Banri lost his memory - In other words, his previous life as a high schooler.

Outside of the storytelling method, I really enjoyed the real-world aesthetic this show produced more often than not. What I mean by this is that there are many points throughout the show that manage to feel like something you could legitimately see for yourself if you were to travel to the real-world versions of the locations and cultures found throughout the show. On the topic of real-world cultures, I especially enjoyed the poetic and extraordinarily subtle symbolism I feel this show had regarding the Eiffel Tower. As it turns out, Koko wants to visit the Eiffel Tower someday with the one she loves. And here's the symbolism I saw in this: The Eiffel Tower's lights are turned off at night - in our modern era, mind you - to honor the victims of dramatic events around the world. Recall the accident I mentioned earlier that resulted in Banri's amnesia.

I also really appreciated how the relationships between characters felt so genuine and relatable, very similar to Toradora, another anime released around 5 years prior. However, this show felt like it was mimicking Toradora! A little too much at times in my opinion. To be perfectly blunt, sometimes the characters felt like clones of the characters from the aforementioned show. Sure, I liked the characters in Golden Time a hell of a lot more than their Toradora! Counterparts, but I still felt they could have been a little bit more... I don't know, original, I suppose.

Something else I disliked was the content I didn't see as easy to be understood by the intended demographic, or at least people who come from an overly-conservative background: For example, at one point, Kaga goes to a goth band's concert and tries to climb onto the stage, ultimately resulting in her messing up the band's performance. From the way it is presented, one would most likely be led to believe she was simply exhausted, but honestly, there's a bit more adult-minded pretext behind this scene. Another example is when Tada Banri gets a job alongside Mitsuo at a party in order to make money, but... well, let's just say they had them both mandatorily wearing some eh... questionable fashion choices, let's call them... that resulted in quite a lot more adult-minded pretext than the previous example. It was moments such as these that left me with what may have been the single most weird mix of feelings I have ever felt while watching any anime ever. I found the idea both extremely hilarious and uncomfortable at exactly the same time. I found it funny because it was something obviously done with the intent of making the audience laugh, but I also found it uncomfortable because of knowing the primary audience this show is intended for is a bit younger than my own age group, and I really don't think most people in that age group, or at least people with a conservative mentality, would be likely to understand that this was a joke.

Also riding on the same train of thought as the previous talking point, there were many points that I felt could certainly have been represented better. Of course the first example of this is the aforementioned gag I talked about previously, but there were a few other examples of this as well. Like, I'm pretty sure people don't typically dress the way they did for the clubs in the school club scene from the first episode as they do in the real world. Those uniforms from the Glee Club or the Latin Music Club, for instance. Despite all that, though, Golden Time was something I saw as being a legitimately creative and extremely enjoyable show, even with its listed flaws, and I highly recommend it.

I think the way Kouko is like this over the top kind of girl which makes me think of Reece Witherspoons character in Legally Blonde. I'm not trying to compare the two but both do have a similarity a bit!

I like the way this animes story goes as well as its characters. Like Banri didn't give a darn crap of what background Kouko has, he still loved her for who she is. You do have to feel sorry for him through as he did lost a lot of memory and the fact he just isn't aware of where he originally came from. I'm surprised thst the parents weren't involved in this! I'm glad he found love since he's been through enough and in the ending, I really thought he forgot about Kouko when his memory finally came back to him but I'm glad it was the other way round and the two of them lived happily ever after!

    Really well done anime 8/10

This show is undisputedly an all time goat in the romance/drama anime scene. When going through how the story started off, till falling into the end, I was always on my heels. I LOVE the cast, and LOVE the relationships established in this show. Koko is #1 Waifu who every man desires. I cannot believe this show is only a 7.6 at this moment in time! Golden Time is AT LEAST AN 8.7. I love the brain issues and how realistic this storyline can be to someone with the same issues, but incorporating a love triangle REALLY makes it spectacular!!!!

The Ending was amazing. The only thing I would've added is Koko's family having an episode with Banri, and Banri's family have an episode with Koko. That would've made this show complete in my opinion, but nonetheless, this show was TOP TIER. THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS!!!!!
  • I'd rate this as one of the best anime series I've ever watched. Maybe ReLife is overall still better because Golden Time has a bit too many filler episodes. But the ending is SOOO satisfying and an ingenious execution that it beats ReLife hands down.

Golden Time is a romantic comedy anime that follows the life of Banri Tada, a college student who suffers from amnesia after a tragic accident. He meets and falls in love with Koko Kaga, a beautiful and eccentric girl who is obsessed with her childhood friend Mitsuo Yanagisawa. However, Banri's past comes back to haunt him as he struggles to remember his old self and his relationship with Linda, a girl from his high school.

The anime is based on a light novel series by Yuyuko Takemiya, who is also the author of Toradora. The anime adaptation is done by J. C. Staff, a studio known for producing many popular romance anime such as Nodame Cantabile, Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo, and Shokugeki no Soma. The anime has 24 episodes and aired from October 2013 to March 2014.

The anime's main strength is its realistic and relatable portrayal of college life and romance. The characters are not stereotypical or one-dimensional, but have their own flaws, insecurities, and growth. The anime does not shy away from tackling serious issues such as mental health, trauma, and identity crisis, but also balances them with humor, friendship, and fun. The anime also explores the themes of fate, choice, and memory, and how they affect one's relationships and happiness.

The anime's main weakness is its inconsistent and sometimes confusing plot. The anime introduces many subplots and twists, but some of them are not well-developed or resolved. The anime also relies on some convenient coincidences and contrivances to move the story forward. The anime's ending is also controversial and divisive among the fans, as some may find it satisfying and others may find it disappointing.

The anime's animation and sound are decent, but not outstanding. The character designs are attractive and expressive, but the background and scenery are bland and generic. The anime's soundtrack is catchy and fitting, but not memorable or unique. The anime's opening and ending songs are performed by Yui Horie, who is also the voice actress of Koko Kaga.

Overall, Golden Time is an enjoyable and emotional anime that offers a refreshing and mature take on romance and comedy. The anime has a likable and dynamic cast of characters, a realistic and relatable setting, and a compelling and dramatic story. The anime may have some flaws and shortcomings, but it also has many strengths and merits. The anime is not perfect, but it is worth watching.

    My rating: 9/10.
  • I love the anime it's story, characters, plots all I recommend this anime to everyone. Plus the ending was satisfying so yeah love it I was sick of watching romcoms which has painful ending or very weird ending but this one is very satisfying worth watching it 😚
  • A great show. Some parts in the early-middle could be turned on as background noise. But other than that, I was fully glued to my seat. The anime isn't like many of the mainstream titles, though it may follow some common plot set ups -- the voice acting, the writing, the screenplay is exceptionally better than anything you'll see in an anime in general. Rascal Does not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai is similar to this anime -- just in the art style, however the tone is much different. I'm assuming that you have already seen the English version as I have -- the characters are memorable, and the comedy is quite impressionable. Even though the story can get dramatic, the characters are all believable. In fact, I've never really seen things from the main female protagonist, Koko's, perspective before. This story is a unique slice of life and I highly recommend watching it!
