  • There's something strange about this little comedy...

It's not a great story, though there are a couple of twists. When Bobbi (Wall) finds out that she is about to lose her house to her ex-son-in-law, after the death of her daughter, she turns to her friends for help... Unfortunately for him, this quadruple of octogenarians don't mind getting their hands dirty. When Mimi (Henderson) goes to visit him, things get out of control when she pulls a gun... From here on in, events start to spiral out of control. You have a loan shark wanting his money back and is willing to kill for it. A detective who is smarter than he looks and is hot on the heels of the missing ex-son-in-law and the mystery surrounding the disappearance.

The acting isn't too great. Even Henderson and Grier have problems with getting a grip on their characters and at times seem out of odds with the story and the film. It's Wall, Reinhold, and Parrish's characters that shine the most and they are brilliant in their portrayals. It's Parrish's portrayal of the flirtatious Ava that added the most light to this film. As for Eaton who played Virginia, I have to wonder what the point of her character was... it just feels like she was there to make up the numbers. Oh and then there's Batinkoff as Detective Mclemore. I really feel for him as he appears to be a decent actor, but at times his comedic movements are way over the top and unfunny in this type of situation and this style of comedy.

The direction isn't great and even draws on other films for its scenes... take the "Pass The Spliff" scene where we get comedic close-ups of the actresses and actor all partaking in a tote or two. This has been done so many times before that I cannot actually name where I saw it first. There were plenty of times that both tension and suspense could have been added to the film but were totally overlooked. The scene where the Detective knows in his gut that something is fishy with the old galls so decides to check out the house. Instead of adding atmosphere the director decides to play it for laughs... and as I said Batinkoff's comedy walks are not up to the Monty Python excellence. This gives the whole movie a steady pace, which, at times, makes it feel boring. It needed a kick up the arse.

All that said... I found it to be a very enjoyable movie. It's genuinely more enjoyable than the sum of its parts actually appear. On paper, you shouldn't like this film... but it is a nice Sunday Morning easy flick... with murder and dark humour. I laughed out loud and that is the job of this movie... I even felt good at the end... and I may even watch it again...

So I would recommend this to the lovers of gallows humour and good "Bad B-Movies". For some weird reason this worked for me, it may work for you too. Though I will warn you the worst part of this film is the opening titles - they are truly horrendous...and not in a good way.

Storyline terrible, acting terrible, the whole film is just terrible, i'm being way over generous giving it a 4 rating.Guess i'm in the minority with my ratings but for me this is a total waste of your time watching.
  • The plot is interesting enough though there is really no suspense involved or action to speak of. A pack of grannies figure life in prison is not that long at all and embark on setting things right for a friend. In doing so they set off a chain of events that put them in constant peril.

If's a comedy so there are plenty of goofs and gaffes and obviously the world is never so easily put in neat boxes. The point is to laugh at the absurdity of the situation and life in general. Unlike many dark comedies made lately, you actually root for the good guys in this movie.

There are parts that will give you are really big belly laugh, unfortunately too much time is spent on side plots and wastes of time or this could have been one of those gems that accidentally fall out of Hollywood from time to time. It's funny but too much is just biz as usual in movie making to be epically funny.

Well worth wasting an hour and a half if you have nothing pressing to do or better to watch. You will laugh and be entertained. That's the best most movies can ever say.
  • When I sat down to watch the 2017 comedy "Bad Grandmas", I must admit that I had hoped for a bit more comedy than what the movie turned out to be. But this movie was a dried up well in terms of comedy.

The storyline was adequate enough, albeit it wasn't a storyline that had much of any particular appeal to me. And as such, I found myself sitting with my phone in hand and checking up on Facebook, as my interest in the movie, the storyline and the characters was fast ebbing away and dwindling into nothingness.

Initially seeing Pam Grier and Judge Reinhold on the cast list sparked a hope of this actually could turning out to be interesting. But that was just not something that found a hold, and the movie ended up being a boring and mundane piece of comedy entertainment.

Very little of any interest took place throughout the course of the movie, and some of the scenes were actually performed with such performances that made me cringe, as it was so uncomfortable to watch that it made it to the final cut. And the majority of the characters were essentially flat as cardboard cut outs and had little to no personality or traits to offer to the movie, which meant that you didn't really invest any interest in the characters.

If you like comedies with laughs and to make you feel good, then you might want to give "Bad Grandmas" a wide berth.

I am rating "Bad Grandmas" a score of three out of ten stars.
  • Warning: Spoilers
If blood splatter is your bag, then this is for you. If not, then don't watch. We didn't make it more than 15-20 minutes in if that before it got so bad we turned it off.

SPOILER: It begins with one woman accidentally shooting someone. She and others move the body to her house. Then, when they learn the victim's not actually dead, the killer takes a knife and stabs him like it means nothing. Later there's a scene of them chopping the body into little pieces with lots of blood.
  • I've never seen seasoned actors in a movie where they seem like they've never acted much before, including Florence Henderson, Judd Herschel, and Pam Grier.

This movie is so goofy that it's almost worth watching just to chuckle for the ridiculous value of it.

I'm so tired of watching these craptasic movies they are putting on Netflix, so when I see something with such classic characters in it, I assume it's going to at least be watchable. Wrong.

Maybe I was disillusioned by the Brady Bunch when I was a kid, so I didn't realize the good ol' Flo has always been such a poor actress?

I really wanted this to be like a feature-length version of Grace & Frankie, but it fell way short.

The acting was subpar. Everyone looked like they were trying too hard and it appeared very unnatural.

The story was what I would expect from a movie like this, but fell short in the delivery.
  • From the first minute on I kept hoping this would become funny. Because the idea of four elderly ladies killing a conman en getting rid of the body seemed to have some fun-potential. But it just kept on being completely boring. What a waste of their talent and my time.
  • Is this Oscar material, nope, but I did enjoy the movie. It was corney but exactly what you would expect. I watched it on TV, not in the theaters and I found the plot was suspenseful and the little old ladies, especially Florence Henderson were delightful. Just go with it and accept the genre and you will find yourself laughing out loud.

Gave up watching after 10 minutes. The acting and dialogue were television bad. Even with "name" actors this only added to this cess pool of a movie. I am sorry that I gave Amazon the 3.99 to rent this.

Funny movie with great performances from Pam Grier and Florence Henderson. It's not Shakespeare but it doesn't pretend to be.. it's a comedy that works ecause f it's spareness and no nonsense sense of humor. Judge Reinhold is good also , in fact I didn't recognize him t first.. This film is as nice diversion for an hour and a half....
  • If you're looking for a serious or high-brow movie with a deep plot, keep looking. But if you just want silly, campy entertainment - this movie is for you!

There is even a little bit of mystery throughout the movie. Just relax and enjoy the silliness and how they get out of this messy mess. ;-)

    3/10
    Awful
Just a very bad movie , all the way around. Movie just drags on and on . Skip this one.
  • Wow. Not even Pam Grier can save this one. Terrible all the way around. It seemed to have been filmed in someone's garage. The sound, dialog, acting and story were awful. Some of the worst acting I have ever seen in my life.

This film is very badly scripted and I couldn't get into the hang of the film. I don't recommend this film.

This movie is birdemic levels of bad. Just don't. Please stay away. Worse than a college film.
  • sdtofx18 March 2018
I honestly thought that this movie was a college project by one of the casts grandson or granddaughter. Everyone was doing a favor being in it... but alas IT'S A REAL MOVIE!!
  • Good idea for movie, but could have been better. Pam Greer underused, and very formatic script.

THIS IS NOT A BAD MOVIE...EVEN MY WIFE ENJOYED IT SOME...THE PLOT IS PRETTY EASY TO FOLLOW & IT KEEPS U WONDERING WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT...I RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE TO EVERYONE...A BLOCKBUSTER HIT ITS NOT BUT GIVE IT A CHANCE!
  • Went to the theater not having anything in mind - the poster looked funny Pam Grier form Jackie Brown and Ms. Brady - thought we would check it out - to our surprise unique and refreshing - campy and funny - I would recommend it - A side note I believe this is Florence Hendersons last role too -
  • Flo-Hen!! The awesome carol brady. And judge reinhold, who ain't too bad hisself. I saw the low rating on imdb, but couldn't help myself. Sadly, flo actually passed away before the film was released. Love her! I had met her in the 1990s. She had some hilarious stories to tell about her life. Pam grier was the fun "foxy brown" in the 1970s! And then "jackie brown" in the 1990s. So when mimi accidentally shoots someone who was mean to her best friend, the old ladies work together to hide the body. And whatever other bodies start piling up. In between smoking her "medical maryjane". It moves a bit slow, but it's hilarious that a group of little old ladies are up to all these shenanigans. Sure, it ain't no shakespeare, but it's actually pretty funny. Better than the low rating here on imdb. Directed by srikant chellappa.
  • Then you'll love this! Very Bad things meets Bad moms! Adorable, fun, and twisted! Laughed a lot and had fun! Definitely a good movie for an evening at home!

I don't understand the hating on this movie. It is funny and strange and I liked it for that. I laughed out loud several times and modern comedies don't usually do that for me. It is a comedy in the mold of Arsenic and Old Lace. Is it that good, no. But it is funny. And seeing Florence Henderson and Pam Grier as pot smoking, murdering old ladies doesn't work for you then go watch something else.
  • I'm not a big Florence Henderson fan, but she was awesome in this movie, as were all the ladies!!! This movie was definitely not what I thought it would be, and actually turned out to be something I'd love to see a sequel or two from!

One of the best "B" movies made in a long time! Destined to become a cult film for sure.

Just goes to show you, don't base someones intellect or gumption on their age! They are sure to surprise you!
