There is no denying that any animated project is as good as its voice-over artists. Luckily, the Dcau has never come across an ‘L’ when it comes to finding the right person to voice the characters. They have Andrea Romano to thank for that. The Goddess of Casting has worked across many, many projects as a casting director, including Popeye and Son, Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited, and so on.

Justice League was one of those shows that really dived deep into DC lore, pulling characters from across its run, all the way from the golden age to the modern run of comics. This requires some changes to be made to the characters to make them more appropriate for the animated run.
Justice League Unlimited
The show introduced a myriad of villains, some of which were very deep cuts from the comics. Of course, some of them were the most popular during their respective runs, when sensibilities towards creating characters were different. So, when Eclipso was supposed to be introduced in the show, Bruce Timm decided that the character needed a little updating.

While aimed at kids, Dcau was no stranger to crossing boundaries by incorporating s-xual innuendos and double entendres into their shows in order to keep the adults hooked. Although Batman: The Animated Series, which started it all, and its successor had their fair share of adult jokes packed into them, with Justice League Unlimited, Bruce TImm took it a step further.
This was a result of the plethora of romantic subplots that were incorporated into the series, which also involved a surprising romance arc between Green Lantern and Hawkgirl. Later elaborating on it, Timm revealed it was a result of their experiment with the show’s format.

In most comic iterations, Hawkman is often the match for Hawkgirl, but to fans’ surprise, in Justice League Unlimited, we witness a romantic arc between her and John Stewart.

Alan Moore is a legend. The comics that he has created have become some of the most significant in DC Studios, having been behind iconic works like Batman: The Killing Joke, Night Olympics, and Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow. He has a reputation for creating works that are the perfect blend of literary genius and mainstream comics.

When it came to the Dceu, Zack Snyder had quite the idea for his characters. They weren’t going to be just some usual run of the mill superheroes who had a conviction for doing good. For Snyder, it was so much more. He understood very well that life is never fair. The conundrums that categorise the postmodern era can’t be reflected in a hunky-dory world.
Hence the epiphany to explore with characters who would dare to start on the dark side of the spectrum, showing everyone’s favorite superheroes in a light no one could have imagined. And he was made to answer for that, with a section of fans questioning his choices. But he wasn’t the first to do so.

There is something odd about the DC Animated Universe that has captivated casual and hardcore fans since the shows in the universe began airing. This particular dissonance within the universe is something that is never explained inside or outside the narrative, but sets up a Battleworld-level landscape for the stories about our beloved heroes.
Justice League Unlimited was the concluding series in the Dcau
A theory on the internet attempts to rationalize this narrative dissonance, given that the characters existed in a world that simultaneously had outdated technology coexisting with future tech. This ‘fractured timeline’ theory finds its basis in the episode where the Justice League had to fight Vandal Savage.

Having worked in some of the biggest animated shows of all time – Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited, Timm became one of the leading names in the Dcau. But other than working for the DC Animated Universe, he has worked on many other projects in his career.

There was something about superhero shows in the 90s and early 2000s that made them the definitive versions of their respective IPs for an entire generation. Be it Batman: The Animated Series, X-Men: The Animated Series, or Justice League Unlimited, these animated shows left a lasting mark on a generation and were the definitive versions of characters like Batman, Cyclops, Martian Manhunter, and Hawkgirl.

Bruce Timm, creator of acclaimed animated series like Batman: The Animated Series, weighed in on why his show took the world by storm the way it did, and it stands to reason that his explanation can be extrapolated to all the other shows that came out during the time. After all, it’s been mentioned time and time again, that adaptations just need to do one thing right, which is echoed even today, with Marvel’s X-Men ’97.

The DC Animated Universe is generally hailed as one of the better adaptations of superhero comics. While it was the definitive version of characters like Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman, some characters suffered a lot throughout the shows, and fans felt that they were slighted in their depictions. When there are so many characters to focus on, some end up falling by the wayside.

X-Men ’97 has conquered the entire internet and superhero world as fans are elated to have their favorite show back after ages. In a time when the MCU is fumbling with most of its live-action projects, the animated X-Men show proves how a good show can make a difference. The animated show’s success has even raised a conversation about the revival of many other fan-favorite shows. Amidst this, certain DC fans also argue that reviving the Dcau could be an incredible move.

Besides Superman growing up, many would remember another figure who would seldom steal the spotlight, and that’s Supergirl. Although not as popular as Superman, she too has her own legion of fans. Why shouldn’t she? Like Superman, she is also a Kryptonian and is one hell of a fighter. Her popularity in comics later brought her into many mediums to entertain fans, including various DC and Dcau shows. But one, in particular, changed up her identity a bit, more specifically her origin, but why?

Supergirl, also known as Kara Zor-El, is somewhat one of the lesser-known characters in the DC Comics universe, compared to the DC usuals. Although she isn’t as popular as Batman or Superman, her name is still familiar to many.
Starting off as a female counterpart of the Man of Steel, she slowly gained recognition in the comics world.

"Young Justice" currently sits in limbo after its fourth season wrapped on Max. There's more story to tell, but Warner Bros. hasn't given creator Greg Weisman the greenlight to tell it. But hey, "Young Justice" has come back from worse! Cartoon Network outright canceled the show after season 2 finished airing in 2013.
"Young Justice" has the same premise as "Teen Titans" (soon to be a movie from DC Studios). The sidekicks of DC Comics form their own team. Then, each season skips ahead in time and the show's true design is unveiled. "Young Justice" isn't just a show about the sidekicks, it's Weisman's epic about the entire DC Universe, following heroes and villains as they age and fall, and new ones rise.

The DC Animated Universe did a slew of things right, such that it became synonymous with good superhero media to this day. Be it The Justice League, Batman: The Animated Series, or Superman: The Animated Series, these animated shows created the blueprint for poignant superhero stories, along with figuring out what they must focus on.

However, despite how influential the animated series was, there are some cues from it that Zack Snyder failed to incorporate into his universe, which one can assume contributed to the Dceu’s problems. Further, it seems like James Gunn is going g to sidestep those issues, given the approach that he is taking for the new Dcu.

The animated X-Men are about to make their return to TV in "X-Men '97." This Disney+ series is basically a thirty-year-late sixth season of 1992's "X-Men," the first cartoon about the Marvel Comics superhero team.

A relaunch is coming to "X-Men" in Summer 2024 under the banner "From The Ashes," the follow-up to the ongoing "Fall of X." There'll be three primary series at first:

"Uncanny X-Men" by Gail Simone and David Marquez. "Outlaw" lovebirds Gambit and Rogue head to New Orleans with Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Jubilee in tow.

"Justice League Unlimited" is a pinnacle of superhero cartoons. Had its airing not intersected with my childhood, my fascination with comics probably wouldn't have blossomed the way it did.
The terrific final product wasn't a sign of the creators always working under ideal conditions, however. In the 2000s, Warner Bros. was quite particular about letting DC Comics characters appear in more than one show at a time, apparently out of concern that audiences would be confused by multiple versions of the same character -- hence the infamous "Bat-Embargo." 2004, the year that "Justice League Unlimited" began, also saw the premiere of "The Batman," a solo cartoon about, well, Batman, but set in a different continuity. Batman's villains and supporting cast were therefore off-limits to the "Justice League" team.

"Superman: Legacy" keeps coming together; Nicholas Hoult will reportedly be joining the James Gunn-directed superhero film as Lex Luthor, the Man of Steel's enduring yet all too human archnemesis. At this time, Deadline is reporting that Hoult has a locked deal with Warner Bros but The Hollywood Reporter claims the deal is still being negotiated (and was already in talks before the SAG-AFTRA strike earlier this year).
Previously, it had been confirmed that Superman himself would be played by relative newcomer David Corenswet ("Pearl") while Rachel Brosnahan ("The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel") has been cast as Lois Lane. Now, Hoult rounds out this trio as the other most important "LL" in Clark Kent's life. Another villain has already been confirmed to be in "Superman: Legacy" (The Engineer as played by María Gabriela De Faría), but I can't imagine that character will take precedence when Lex Luthor is in the picture.

Recently Guillermo del Toro, the Oscar-winning director behind “The Shape of Water,” “Nightmare Alley” and “Pinocchio,” said that collecting physical media, in the midst of streamers unceremoniously deleting thousands of titles, is nothing short of a “moral imperative.” And we agree. Each month new home video releases – of both classic films and newer titles – come out. And each one is cause for celebration. With that in mind, we want to highlight the very best titles of every month.
With the insane games that the various streaming platforms are pulling, in terms of removing content from their services (sometimes projects that were made specifically for those platforms), an added emphasis has been placed on home video. And with good reason. The only way you can insure that the movies you love will be around is by owning them on physical media. Thankfully the home video labels have been stepping up their game,...

When Zack Snyder’s ‘Man of Steel’ was released in 2013, we all thought a new era of DC had started since the movie was supposed to kick off a cinematic universe that was supposed to bring DC into the cinematic universe race with Marvel. However, ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ received a mixed critical response, and despite grossing over $800 million worldwide, it was deemed a commercial disappointment since it was the first live-action movie that assembled Batman and Superman together.
In 2014, Warner Bros. and DC revealed their planned slate of DC movies, which included many solo movies like ‘Wonder Woman,’ ‘Aquaman,’ ‘The Flash,’ ‘Cyborg,’ and ‘The Green Lantern Corps.’ Now, nine years later, only three of these movies have been made, with the difference that ‘The Flash’ turned out to be very different from what it was originally planned. Superhero media is the fad these days, and most comic-book franchises are doubling down on their efforts to produce more related content with each passing year. However, there was a period when even the big two comic-book franchises, DC and Marvel, explored different genres like horror, western, space adventure, and fantasy in the comic-book medium, which were totally free from the continuity of mainline superhero-related series and had their own space to grow. Some of the most iconic stories and characters were introduced through these non-superhero comics, and they had their own separate audience to cater to as well.
Generally, as comic-book sales dwindled, most of the iconic titles ceased to exist and were integrated into mainline comics continuity; as a result, many of yesteryear’s popular characters were largely forgotten. In the recently released DC animated movie Justice League: Warworld, which is a part of the Tomorrowverse, the narrative...

One of the most memorable faces in horror history, Robert Englund remains a rare example of a genre actor that no director would dare to hide under a mask. Sure, his signature role as the clawed dream demon had Englund performing under several layers of intricate makeup, but it was still his iconic expressions and mannerisms that turned Freddy Krueger into a household name.
However, one of the actor’s many talents is rarely acknowledged when looking back on his decades of contributions to genre media, and that would be his penchant for villainous voice-acting. For decades now, the sultry sounds of Robert Englund have been bringing all manners of animated characters to life in cartoons and videogames. The superhero comic books of Marvel and DC use a static timeline, where no characters permanently age. That's what makes "Batman Beyond" so unique; following in the thematic footsteps of "The Dark Knight Returns," the show depicted a Bruce Wayne who'd aged out of the cowl. In his place, he trained teenage Terry McGinnis as the new Dark Knight. The film "Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker" even provided a definite end for "Batman: The Animated Series," showing via flashback the final battle between the original Batman and the Joker; the latter abducts Robin (Tim Drake) and tortures/brainwashes him into "Joker Junior." Tim ultimately snaps and kills the Joker with his own spear gun.
However, the next DC Animated Universe series, "Justice League"/"Justice League Unlimited," went back to the "present"/contemporary era. This left the creators constrained by what they established in "Batman Beyond" — or did it?

We're a little over a week out from the release of "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" — the highly-anticipated sequel to the 2018 Oscar-winning movie — and the first reactions to the film have arrived on social media. And according to critics who were lucky enough to catch an early screening, "Across the Spider-Verse" is "terrific," an "incredible accomplishment," and the "ultimate Spider-Man experience." As you might've expected, everyone is going ga-ga over the work put into the animation, noting how it's "impossible to see it all [and] experience it all in one sitting."
Collider's Steven Weintraub echoed that with his reaction: "Absolutely loved ['Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.'] Wanted to push pause about a hundred times to study the incredible artistry on display. Cannot recommend this film enough and already looking forward to seeing it again." Characters being highlighted include "Get Out" star Daniel Kaluuya's Hobart "Hobie" Brown/Spider-Punk who uses a guitar as a weapon,...

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s first scripted TV series, the Jennifer Lopez-starring action film The Mother and documentaries featuring Anna Nicole Smith and Barack Obama are among the high-profile projects hitting Netflix this month.
At the end of May, the streamer is dropping the Schwarzenegger-starring spy comedy Fubar, in which the former California governor and Top Gun: Maverick’s Monica Barbaro play a father and daughter who discover they’ve each been secretly working as CIA operatives as they’re forced to team up and get to know each other’s true selves.
And earlier this month, in time for Mother’s Day, Lopez plays an assassin who emerges from hiding to protect a daughter she gave up for adoption years earlier in The Mother, streaming this Friday. The Niki Caro-directed action movie also stars Joseph Fiennes, Lucy Paez, Omari Hardwick, Paul Raci and Gael Garcia Bernal and was written by Andrea Berloff,...
