Back in the 1950s and 60s there were many sci-fi horror films made that today we would laugh at. A movie like The Blob is considered a somewhat corny classic. The problem with Wellwood is that it's about as preposterous as some cheesy film from the 1950s but this is 2025 and instead it plays as just incredibly absurd. At one point this was so bad I thought maybe it's supposed to be a comedy but I wasn't laughing, just mumbling to myself how stupid it was. I have to add a spoiler by describing one scene early on just to give you an idea of how dreadful this film is. The lead actor, who is not a good actor at all, finds an alien in the woods, carries it back to a shed, ties it up and later tries to give it a glass of water and a slice of bacon. Needless to say it isn't interested in either. There are only 4 actors in this and none of their characters act the way anyone would in real life. I find it hard to believe an actual adult wrote this. I'm only giving this 2 stars because all the money spent on this for special effects and the actual alien creature were well spent, they are way above the movie which is not only bad but boring. I felt nothing for the characters, there is no suspense or anything frightening, the script is beyond poor, the direction is non-existent. It isn't well edited either because some shots from the past in the movie are cut so quickly you see nothing but a flash on screen. At an hour and a half it was time wasted.
