John Ritter and Jim Belushi in Hombres de verdad (1987)
Real Men Season 1 Review: Unlearning Toxic Masculinity with Laughs and Heart
John Ritter and Jim Belushi in Hombres de verdad (1987)
Real Men (Maschi veri), an Italian dramedy created by Letizia Lamartire and Matteo Oleotto, follows four middle-aged friends—Luigi, Mattia, Riccardo and Massimo—who reluctantly join a workshop aimed at unlearning entrenched notions of manhood. Set against the backdrop of contemporary Italy’s obsession with social-media influence and public image management, the series balances sharp satire with heartfelt moments of self-examination.

From the very first seminar scene—where the men are confronted about “frat-boy bravado” and “male pride”—Real Men establishes a tone that oscillates between farcical comedy and genuine drama.

In 2025, global audiences are grappling with shifting conversations around gender roles, much as Indian parallel cinema has long interrogated patriarchy through intimate portrayals like Masaan’s quiet reckonings or Anubhav Sinha’s Tumhari Sulu, which highlight personal transformation against societal norms.

Real Men taps into this zeitgeist by using humor—vibrating-toy mishaps, Tinder-setups gone awry—and candid dialogue to...

‘Real Men’ Season 1 Recap (Episodes 1-8): Was Massimo Threatened By Daniela’s Success?
Image
Frankly speaking, I didn’t have a lot of expectations from Real Men, but the Netflix series really took me by surprise. It was an entertaining watch, and from the characters to the storyline, I loved absolutely everything about it. The series reiterates the fact that men today need to tone down their aggressiveness, be a little more expressive, a tad bit more vulnerable, and understand what masculinity really means. I am glad that, today, a majority of men are willing to change, adapt, and understand the perspective of their partners. They are willing to embark on journeys together where they have a partnership, a sense of companionship, rather than just forcing their own lifestyle on their partner. That said, let’s find out what happened in the series, and explore the conflicts the 4 couples encounter on their journey.

Spoiler Alert

What did Mattia’s daughter make him do?

Mattia had separated from his wife,...

‘Real Men’ Netflix Review: Italian Dramedy About Toxic Masculinity Falls Short Of Being Decent
Image
It’s actually wild that, even in the year 2025, we still haven’t fixed the issue of toxic masculinity. Instead, young men are being indoctrinated to be misogynistic and uphold patriarchal norms because feminism has apparently trampled men’s rights to be, well, manly. The most prominent front where this exercise to “reclaim” the status quo, where men can be allowed to be sexist without any consequences, is being carried out in the comments sections of social media and through podcasts. And in some extreme cases, it’s leading to real-life violence and death. Is that sparking any kind of introspection in the people that belong to that gender? Or are men doubling down on their pursuit to “go back to the old ways,” whatever that means? Well, if we see this situation through the lens of entertainment, one of the most popular shows of this year is Adolescence, which...

‘Real Men’ Ending Explained & Finale Recap: What Happens To Luigi, Mattia, Riccardo, & Massimo?
Image
Real Men’s ending is about consequences. The story is centered around Luigi, Mattia, Riccardo, and Massimo, four men who have been friends with each other since college. Luigi married Tiziana and had two kids with her, but then Tiziana decided to leave Luigi and fool around with her personal trainer. Mattia married Federica and had Emma, but the couple then decided to go their separate ways, thereby leaving Emma in a bit of a pickle. Riccardo was in a relationship with Ilenia, who he was cheating on with Valentina, but when Ilenia recommended that they have an open relationship, Riccardo’s life started to fall apart. Massimo was in a relationship with Daniela, but when he lost his job and she began earning enough to put food on the table, he felt that his masculinity was in danger. Since Mattia felt that their reactions to their unique situations were particularly misogynistic and toxic,...

Netflix is adding 15 movies and series this week
Image
Netflix is a bit light on the quantity of new releases this week, but certainly not on the quality. A gripping sports documentary, several great comedy series, and one of the top family movies of the decade all arrive this week.

Listen fam, Netflix isn't going to have an amazing lineup of new releases every week. It just isn't possible, we all know that. There are a lot of competing streaming services out there - even if some of them can't keep the same name for a year at a time.

What's next for Max after HBO Max? HBO? Home? Perhaps Bo would be apt. It does describe the stench of the corporate offices that dumped Looney Tunes as too costly, but will now have Batman shilling for dishwashing liquid, or dog food, or whatever makes them a buck.

But let's focus on Netflix. They can't bring in all the best new shows every time,...

New Italian Series Coming to Netflix in 2025 & Beyond
Image
Pictures: Netflix

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been getting regular updates as part of Next on Netflix, an opportunity to see what’s coming to Netflix in 2025 from around the world. One of the countries participating in the live event for journalists was Netflix Italy, which previewed its upcoming slate for 2025 for local journalists. The year has already started strong with Public Disorder (or Acab as it’s known in other regions), but what else is coming up? Here’s a rundown of what we unveiled.

In Italy, Tinny Andreatta, the Vice President of Content, expressed her enthusiasm about 2025, stating, “This year is significant for us in Italy because it marks the 10th anniversary of Netflix’s launch in our country. We will provide our audience with a wider and more diverse selection that spans various genres, innovative formats, and languages. We aim to tell authentic stories...

Species | The evolution and surprising impact of a 1990s monster movie
Image
Originally conceived as a sci-fi thriller with philosophical undertones, Species emerged as one of 1995’s weirdest monster movies.

The early 90s digital effects revolution birthed many monsters. Sam Neill and Laura Dern were menaced by velociraptors in the ground-breaking Jurassic Park in 1993. Tom Sizemore and Penelope Ann Miller were chased around a museum by a rhino-like behemoth in The Relic (1996). Samuel L Jackson was rudely interrupted mid-monologue by an intellectual shark in Deep Blue Sea (1999).

Few monster movies were as eclectically cast or as zany as 1995’s Species. Somehow, director Roger Donaldson managed to convince such acting greats as Ben Kingsley, Forest Whitaker and Alfred Molina to appear as members of a specialist team on the trail of a randy human-alien hybrid monster (Natasha Henstridge) seducing assorted men in Los Angeles.

It’s all delightful B-movie hokum, even if the film’s classier elements – the quality cast, the design of...

Animanía (2020)
Hulu New Releases: November 2021
Animanía (2020)
As the Hollywood blockbuster machine continues to dust itself off and release some early winter hits, Hulu is going in a bit of a different direction with its list of new releases for November 2021.

There are no big Hulu original films of note this month. Instead there’s a whole host of original series. The TV parade starts on Nov. 5 with the release of Animaniacs season 2. Also getting a second season this month is monarchal comedy The Great on Nov. 19. The most intriguing series, however, is animated Marvel comedy Marvel’s Hit Monkey. As its name so graciously implies, this is a show about a hit monkey…as in monkey assassin. Naturally the hit monkey is haunted by the ghost of Jason Sudeikis because it’s important that everything make sense.

Though Hulu doesn’t have any original movies in November, its list of library movie titles is quite vast.

Concert Review: Joe Jackson Tests New Songs, Revives Bowie and Mancini at Tour Closer
Joe Jackson at an event for Tierra de Nadie: Sicario (2015)
Out-of-town tryouts aren’t just for the theater world. There’s a rich tradition in rock, too, of taking to the road to test and strength unrecorded material, although the custom is on the ropes, obviously, in the YouTube era. Joe Jackson still believes in the process: For July , he tacked a 15-city mini-tour of secondary markets onto the tail end of two years of gigging, for a two-fold purpose, he explained during Sunday’s tour finale in Boise.

The short trek was to hit places he’d “rarely or never played before, here being the latter,” Jackson said shortly into a two-hour set at Idaho’s sold-out, 1,400-seat, sphinx-filled, 91-year-old Egyptian. “The other reason is to try out some new songs, as our next stop is the recording studio. Do you mind? … I figured it was only polite to ask, even though we’re gonna do them anyway.”

Signs...

Snoop Dogg Leads March on Lapd HQ, Seeks ‘Dialogue’ With Young Officers
Snoop Dogg in 90210 (2008)
Snoop Dogg led a march on Lapd headquarters Friday to protest the police killings of minority men, a day after five police officers were killed and seven wounded during a rally in Dallas. Snoop Dogg and fellow rapper the Game, who joined the demonstration, took steps to make sure their political statement wouldn’t be marred by violence. “Calling: All African American Men, Mexican American Men & any other Race of Real Men with heart to stand with us today & walk peacefully to the Lapd headquarters,” the Game wrote on Instagram. “Do not: bring any weapons or anything illegal. Do not come high or.

'Why Trump?' Top Gop Ad Man Launches Campaign Urging Voters to Rethink the Republican Nominee
Donald Trump
"Macho man," "world-class dealmaker" and "conservative" are just a few words supporters have used to describe Donald Trump. Bob Gardner's new "Why Trump" campaign, now up on YouTube, urges Gop voters backing Trump to reconsider their support for the real estate mogul, who Gardner believes is damaging to the Republican party. Best of Late Night TV: Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans Talk 'Civil War,' Gina Rodriguez Punches James Corden
If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

"Jimmy Kimmel Live" had a mini meeting of The Handsome Men's Club Tuesday night to talk about "Captain America: Civil War" and show off that brand spankin' new trailer. (Watch it again. It's epic.) Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. also talked about their real-life friendship and how Rdj had all of his furniture moved to Atlanta for filming so his cats could sit in the chair they like. (Real men love cats. #fact) Rdj was also inducted into the California Hall of Fame. Every state should invent a Hall of Fame and induct Rdj, just so he'll show up and be charming.

Krysten Ritter continued Jkl's Marvel theme,...

7 ways ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ sublimely subverts movie sexism
When the final trailer for “Mad Max: Fury Road” dropped back in April, I questioned if George Miller was secretly giving audiences a feminist action movie. There’s nothing secret about it. “Fury Road” is two hours of high octane action that is also a giant middle finger to every sexist action movie trope that has come before it. From the moment Imperator Furiosa takes a hard left into the desert to the second the end credits rolls, Miller is not interested in the status quo whether it comes to stunts, storytelling, or stereotypes. It is the most subversive action blockbuster in existence and it is glorious. Warning: Massive Spoilers For “Mad Max: Fury Road” Below. #1. It’s a story about escaping sexual slavery with zero sex in it. Image Credit: Warner Bros. I’ll be honest. When I first heard the plot of “Fury Road” involved five women escaping...

Fox News Thinks 'Frozen' Is Teaching Little Girls That Men Are Stupid
Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad, Jonathan Groff, and Santino Fontana in Frozen 'Let It Go' in 25 Languages - Behind the Mic (2014)
Is Frozen sexist against men? Is that a question you have ever asked yourself or, upon hearing it now, is that a question that you care about at all? Fox News has and Fox News does!

During a recent episode of Fox & Friends, host Steve Doocy gave a platform to Penny Young Nance, the CEO of Concerned Women for America, to reveal why she is very concerned this week: "Are movies like the Disney smash-hit about an ice queen and her sister empowering our girls by turning our men into fools and villains?"

News: No one loves ‘Frozen’ more than this adorable dancing baby!

Disney

If it doesn’t seem like we’re taking the so-called “Frozen Effect” seriously, it’s just because we’re not.

But here’s what Penny Young Nance has to say anyway, because why not? “Hollywood in general has often sent the message that men are stupid, in the way...

Brown, known for his explosive temper, let loose on Instagram Monday following a 5-minute segment on The Real in which Braxton mentioned that Tran and Brown might need friends to intervene in their relationship.

Emma Watson Scores Celebrity Support for #HeForShe Campaign
Following her impassioned speech at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City on Saturday (September 20), Emma Watson has been on the receiving end of all kinds of encouragement from her famous friends.

The “Perks of Being a Wallflower” babe introduced her new #HeForShe campaign at the event after she recently "realized that fighting for women's rights has too often become synonymous with man-hating. If there is one thing I know for certain, it is that this has to stop."

"We want to end gender inequality, and to do this, we need everyone involved...We want to try to galvanize as many men and boys as possible to be advocates for change and we don't just want to talk about it. We want to try and make sure that it's tangible,” she added.

From there, celebrities took to Twitter to voice their support. Douglas Booth wrote, I am a passionate supporter of gender equality.

Sarah Lawrence Student Says Catfish’s Nev Schulman Punched Her ‘Repeatedly’ in the Head in 2006
In his new book, In Real Life: Love, Lies & Identity in the Digital Age, Nev Schulman — the boyish host of the MTV show Catfish — writes about the time he was “tossed out” of Sarah Lawrence College for punching a girl in the face. In the passage, Schulman explains away his behavior by saying he “hadn’t been aware of” the fact that the person he punched was a woman, because she was “short, stocky, crew-cut-styled.” So it struck many former students at Sarah Lawrence as hypocritical when Schulman tweeted a selfie from an elevator on Monday night, condemning former Ravens running back Ray Rice for domestic abuse against his wife, with the message “Real men show strength through patience and honor. This elevator is abuse free.”The anecdote Schulman shares in the book is also strange, not just because of the casual tone in which it’s written, but...

6 reasons we can't wait for Batista to come back to the WWE
Dave Bautista is whipping up a storm in Hollywood.

The wrestler has impressed fans and critics alike with his devastatingly dry take on Drax the Destroyer in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, and a sequel has already been confirmed

But while we never thought we'd say this when the boos rang out during the Royal Rumble, we're already missing Batista from the WWE.

Stephanie McMahon and Paul Heyman are pulling out all the stops, but when it comes to in-ring bad guys, Batista may not be the heel the WWE Universe deserves, but he's the one it needs right now.

Below, Digital Spy rounds up the reasons why Batista's most-recent WWE run shows that he has plenty more to offer when he makes his inevitable return.

1. He can incite a proper slap from Stephanie McMahon, and take it as well

"Lean in a little closer, just drool all over her a little more.

A Badass Frisbee Golfer’s Epic Life is Told in This One-Minute Short Film
Why Watch? Fletch Ferguson is an awesome Frisbee golfer who achieved everything he set out to achieve at an absurdly young age. So what’s his next step? A career shift that will change his entire epic life. This short film from Zen Freese is a bombastic celebration of a huge personality condensed to an appropriately-long time: a single minute. As you can guess, it’s built with quick-cut editing that channels Edgar Wright’s visual style (complete with Pilgrim-esque animation), but the overall feel is a sprinting version of the “Real Men of Genius” beer ads. Everything is larger than life, except the subject. Fletch wins by sheer hyperbole. The music is delightfully upbeat, creating a constant (and repeating) thrumming that the visuals keep time to. However, the cherry on top is the radio-ready voice over narration that delivers achievements both unimpressive and mediocre as dry as you like. What...
