Home Video and Blockbuster Era Movies I've Watched (including my mini-reviews)

by hywel82 • Created 9 years ago • Modified 3 days ago
What I've watched since 2015, including my mini-reviews in the comments of every list item.
What will you find in this list? Movies, direct-to-video movies, TV movies and feature-length pilot episodes for un-commissioned TV series. This list has ended up being mostly genre B-movies with a few mainstream Hollywood movies. Almost every list item is the first time I've seen it.
What dates/eras does it span? From the proto-blockbusters of the late 60's, via the home video era to the last few 80's style movies made around the turn of the Millennium.
Although mostly in chronological order of watch date, I keep sequels grouped together. Even those sequels beyond the scope of this list because I'm thorough.

Quirky hidden gem. I enjoyed this free-wheeling misadventure.
I originally saw most of it on TV years ago and wanted to watch it properly.

More serious than it needed to be. Great cast including Burt Reynolds. Origin of those 'killer hillbilly' movies.

I caught a the first few mins. on TV late on night and wanted to watch it properly.
This is great fun! A 70's, freedom loving, American road movie.

DirectorAlbert BandStarsDon Michael PaulBarbara CramptonJames Staley
    17/11/17
A sci-fi B-movie sequel to 'Robot Jox' (1989), again by Charles Band's production company. It took me a long time to discover that this sequel existed. This one was produced by Charles Band and directed by his father, Albert. The robot effects are stop-motion models and minitures. They look dated, but I like how they look, and the whole movie looks fairly good for an early 90's B-movie. But there's only one big robot fight in the movie. And not enough action to compensate for the disjointed, incoherent plotlines. Overall, has some entertainment value, but not as much as the first one.

Unique and memorable. One of the best horror films ever. Dated make-up and special effects have taken away the shock value, but you won't care because the story is so original.

Direct-to-video Hellraiser sequel by Gary J. Tunnicliffe and with another new actor in the Pinhead role. I expected to dislike this but was surprised how enjoyable it turned out to be. The first quarter was excessively gross and gory though. After that it becomes a better detective story with a premise similar to Se7en (1995) and with a good plot-twist at the end. Overall better than I expected.
