Best Doctor Who Companions

My favourite Doctor Who companions with number 1 being the best.

  • Louise Jameson in Doctor Who (1963)

    1. Louise Jameson

The most violent companion and she had a really sexy cavegirl outfit. Her lack of manners and knowledge produced really funny situations and the idea of the Doctor teaching her was wonderful. Her loyalty to the doctor was unquestionable and she carried a big knife as well as Janus thorns. Her first scene with the doctor was hilarious: "They say the evil one eats babies!"

  • Billie Piper

    2. Billie Piper

She may not have been a cave girl but she was very courageous. Her chemistry with Eccleston's doctor was one of the highlights of that season and the characters of Mickey and Jackie made the character of Rose more significant than most companions. The character is just so likeable. The scene where Rose convinces Jackie that she met her father is very touching.

  • Lalla Ward

    3. Lalla Ward

Both Romanas were equally excellent. Lalla's perhaps had better chemistry with Tom's doctor. A time lady was an ingenious idea for a companion. This was a companion equal to the doctor with her own sonic screwdriver and could survive on her own e.g. Horns of Nimon.

  • Mary Tamm

    4. Mary Tamm

Mary's Romana was just as good as Lalla's. I loved the way that she used to join in with the doctor's eccentricity and jokes.

  • Freema Agyeman

    5. Freema Agyeman

Martha's crush on the doctor and inability to confront him about it was touching. She was also very courageous and her chemistry with David's doctor was superb. It's a shame that her season didn't have better episodes, although the finale was smashing.

  • John Leeson

    6. John Leeson

You either love K9 or you hate him. I found K9 to be really funny and adorable in addition to the fact that by having a robot dog the doctor seems even more alien. The lazer gun was cool. John Leeson did an adorable voice for K9 which was a key part of it, as showed by David Brierley's poor performance.

  • John Barrowman in Desperate Housewives (2004)

    7. John Barrowman

A tough action hero who was there to provide the force for Eccleston's doctor. Very charming and loyal to the doctor. Had very much charisma.

  • Elisabeth Sladen

    8. Elisabeth Sladen

One of the most famous companions. Sarah-Jane was fantastic and her relationship with Tom's doctor was touching. However, she could be a little weak and silly occasionally e.g. Ark in Space.

  • Katy Manning

    9. Katy Manning

A really adorable woman who made the perfect companion for the charming 3rd doctor.

  • Sophie Aldred

    10. Sophie Aldred

Typical 1980s girl. Her pupil-teacher relationship with the 7th doctor was captivating and her fondness for explosives provided lots of fun.

  • Sarah Sutton in Doctor Who (1963)

    11. Sarah Sutton

A great all-round companion. Perfect for the quieter 5th doctor.

  • Anneke Wills

    12. Anneke Wills

A really sweet companion. Sadly most of her episodes are lost.
