Top 10 best superhero movies
I have seen many superhero movies over the years and am a big fan, but I find myself disagreeing with a lot of the top picks when it comes to best superhero movies, so I decided to make my own. Feel free to comment below, as my rankings will no doubt stir up some disagreement.

- 10 titles
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleHeath LedgerAaron EckhartWhen a menace known as the Joker wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, Batman, James Gordon and Harvey Dent must work together to put an end to the madness.Yeah, this is kind of obvious, but The Dark Knight belongs at the top of this list. Great acting, great directing, and some great action. Of course we all know Heath Ledger is great, that's obvious, but I think Aaron Eckhart is also a good Harvey Dent/Two-Face. I can't say anymore, because everything that needs to be said, has been said.
- DirectorMarc WebbStarsAndrew GarfieldEmma StoneRhys IfansAfter Peter Parker is bitten by a genetically altered spider, he gains newfound, spider-like powers and ventures out to save the city from the machinations of a mysterious reptilian foe.Well, this is not a very popular pick, but I really like this movie, so I'm gonna go for it and put the Amazing Spider-man movie and #2. I feel like this movie never really got a fair chance, it just seems like it became cool to hate it. The best thing about this movie is the cast, which gives stellar performances all around, particularly with Gwen and Peter. But the effects are also some of the best effects I've ever seen.
- DirectorJoss WhedonStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris EvansScarlett JohanssonEarth's mightiest heroes must come together and learn to fight as a team if they are going to stop the mischievous Loki and his alien army from enslaving humanity. The Avengers shares some of the problems of the later MCU movies of which I am not a fan, but I think this is a really fun and enjoyable movie. The story is simple, which gives us plenty of time with all of this great cast of characters.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleTom HardyAnne HathawayBane, an imposing terrorist, attacks Gotham City and disrupts its eight-year-long period of peace. This forces Bruce Wayne to come out of hiding and don the cape and cowl of Batman again. This could probably be a bit higher, but I want to add a little variety to the list, so I'll put it at #4. The movie may lack Heath Ledger, but I think Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway are great as Bane and Catwoman respectively. This movie did what few trilogies have ever achieved, wrap it up with a movie just as good as the first two.
- DirectorJon FavreauStarsRobert Downey Jr.Gwyneth PaltrowTerrence HowardAfter being held captive in an Afghan cave, billionaire engineer Tony Stark creates a unique weaponized suit of armor to fight evil. This was the first MCU movie, and in some ways the best. It's funny, it's smart, it's got great acting and has some really good action. It tells a nice contained story without all the character/joke overload that would plague the MCU in the future.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleMichael CaineKen WatanabeAfter witnessing his parents' death, billionaire Bruce Wayne learns the art of fighting to confront injustice. When he returns to Gotham as Batman, he must stop a secret society that intends to destroy the city.I'm putting on a lot of Batman movies, I know, but those are the best to be honest. This and Iron Man have the same things going for it, except this has a darker tone. I really like this movie, and I would put in on par with Iron Man, but for the sake of variety, I'll put it at #6.
- DirectorRichard DonnerStarsChristopher ReeveMargot KidderGene HackmanAn alien orphan is sent from his dying planet to Earth, where he grows up to become his adoptive home's first and greatest superhero. This was the first superhero movie and is still the best of the 20th century. It is the iconic superhero movie, and actually treats the superhero formula as something special, giving us an in-depth look at Superman's character. It has aged a bit though, so It's not quite as good as some of the other superhero movies.
- DirectorsAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsChris EvansSamuel L. JacksonScarlett JohanssonAs Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world, he teams up with a fellow Avenger and S.H.I.E.L.D agent, Black Widow, to battle a new threat from history: an assassin known as the Winter Soldier. This was the exception out of phase 2, this was the movie that didn't suffer from joke overload and or character overload. This is a smart and action packed movie which perfectly captures the character of Captain America and gives him a great villain, unlike Red Skull who was just kind of a figure head of evil, though Hugo Weaving did give a good performance.
- DirectorBryan SingerStarsPatrick StewartHugh JackmanIan McKellenIn a world where mutants (evolved super-powered humans) exist and are discriminated against, two groups form for an inevitable clash: the supremacist Brotherhood, and the pacifist X-Men.For me the first is still the best. The cast is spot on, and it delivers a simple story, great characters and some really fun action all in 100 minutes. This was before superhero movies were cool, so it had to carry its own weight a bit more, which makes me respect it more than the sequels.
- DirectorSam RaimiStarsTobey MaguireKirsten DunstAlfred MolinaPeter Parker is beset with troubles in his failing personal life as he battles a former brilliant scientist named Otto Octavius.I used to like this one more, but over the years the corny tone has brought it down for me until it rests here at the tenth place. I still like Sam Raimi's Spider-man, and Alfred Molina's Doc Ock, but after the ASM duo came out, I realized the first trilogy wasn't quite as good. This is still a very good movie, and is a lot of fun, I'm just explaining why it's so much lower than most would rank it.
