- StarsJohn OliverDavid KayeRyan BargerFormer Daily Show host and correspondent John Oliver brings his persona to this weekly news satire program.John Oliver covers important current topics - it's both informative and educational with a healthy dose of British/American humour sprinkled on top.
- CreatorDavid E. KelleyStarsCalista FlockhartGreg GermannJane KrakowskiFollows the personal and professional life of lawyer Ally.Used to watch this on TV, decided to catch any unseen episodes.
I feel this show is a little under-rated. Sure, there's a lot of Ally-centered drama, however the show also focuses on human relationships in general and how people tend to over-complicate them. It highlights how each and every one of us has different quirks that likely seem weird to majority of people, but it also makes us unique. I find the quirky humor of the main characters quite enjoyable.
Additionally, the court cases and argumentation is interesting to watch since many of them pose valid philosophical questions and allows the viewer to make his/her own judgment.
And lastly, the soundtrack of Vonda Shepard can only be commended - it's a mix of her original songs and her covers of popular songs from 60s, 70s and 80s. - CreatorDarlene HuntStarsMayim BialikSwoosie KurtzKyla PrattA 39-year-old woman decides to use the money her parents had been saving for her wedding to open a cat-themed cafe. This US remake of the British show Miranda (2009) appears to be a pretty average one. Mayim Bialik is not a bad actress, but her persona isn't captivating enough to dazzle audiences. On top of that, the jokes of this comedy show are quite mediocre and only a few of them actually land. The way how the character of Kat is written feels awkward. She's supposed to be this kinda clumsy, but still relatable goofball and the problem is - she's not!
It's one of the rare shows that breaks the 4th wall, and while it might seem fun at first, it gets rather annoying quickly, because it's overused. It appears that they dialed it down significantly in Season 2 and at least for a short while it became a little more watchable.
Season 2 gave other characters a bit more in terms of personalities, but a lot of the underlying problems of Season 1 were still there. There were a few episodes that were funnier and could be considered decent, but overall it's still quite average. In fact, the end of Season 2, was a huge drop in terms of the story and writing.
Season 3 kicked off with more annoying silly stuff and I don't see things improving from here.

The contestants - wow! What a bunch of self-obsessed, overconfident brats. Almost everyone is proud of their ignorance and thinks that the world revolves around them.
The "looking into inner self" and "connecting on a deeper level" part is a complete BS - it's just a bunch of horny people trying hard no to hump each other on camera.

The show includes a ton of references to other sci-fi shows and pop culture in general, so anyone who's not particularly a fan of those will most likely not get the comic relevance. I do however enjoy the struggles and clumsy nature of the characters which paves the way for a good laugh. - StarsKevin FeigeStephen BroussardBrad WinderbaumAssembled is a comprehensive documentary series that chronicles the creation of Marvel Studios' thrilling new shows and theatrical releases. It provides insight from all perspectives: the actors, the writers, directors, set creators, composers and the SFX team. Personally, I've always enjoyed seeing the inner-workings of movie/show creation or the stuff that the viewer usually doesn't get to see in the final product. It includes the thought process of the creators and the actors themselves, and it's always a good laugh as well with these creative people.
Each episode contains spoilers about each show, so it goes without saying that it should be watched after watching the entirety of the TV show itself.
The attention to detail by the crew working on these projects is remarkable: starting from directors, writers, set makers, costume designers and special effects - all of them take inspiration from the source material of comics and earlier Marvel movies, which ensures consistency of story and characters (or lore in general) and continuity. That's one of the biggest reasons why MCU has been so successful when compared to DC movies and TV shows which resemble a stitched-together Frankenstein monster. - CreatorGeneva Robertson-DworetGraham WagnerStarsElla PurnellAaron MotenWalton GogginsIn a future, post-apocalyptic Los Angeles brought about by nuclear decimation, citizens must live in underground bunkers to protect themselves from radiation, mutants and bandits.Judging from the first couple episodes, the show is pretty entertaining and the story is decent. - CreatorMaurissa TancharoenJed WhedonJoss WhedonStarsClark GreggMing-Na WenBrett DaltonThe missions of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.Building on the success of MCU movies, this show tries to find its own niche, and does so pretty well. Although, at times the plot and the action is rather simplistic, and some characters are a bit stereotypical.
It had a quite rocky start, but about half-way through Season 1 it managed to get a firm footing by solidifying its main plot which up until then was a little sketchy on the details.
It nicely utilized the storyline from Captain America: Civil War (2016) to its advantage.
It served as an anchor for the plot and subplots, and made the viewer much more invested in the characters, apart from Agent Coulson.
Season 2 throws even more characters in the mix and the show is starting to develop its own line-up of baddies vs. the good guys. Now an then it taps into the Marvel pool of known characters, but it holds up on its own pretty well to keep things interesting.
Season 3 - it seems that the show is starting to go round in circles, cause it's the same characters used in a different mix. The problem of "no one ever really dies" is becoming more and more apparent. The show is trying very hard to give everyone something to do (i.e. the character arc). Since the roster is pretty big it kinda loses focus and unfortunately some things are starting to make less and less sense. - CreatorCraig SilversteinStarsMaggie QShane WestLyndsy FonsecaA rogue assassin returns to take down the secret organization that trained her.The show appears to be a soft reboot of La Femme Nikita (1997), since it utilizes some key characters and story elements from that show. However, that's were the similarities end, since Nikita herself looks completely different, and her motivations are driven by different causes.
And while it's certainly a show of decent quality and the acting is pretty good - something feels off about it, cause quite often the story elements don't make sense or are poorly written.
The biggest issue is the story set up for each episode - it feels very artificial and there's barely any connection between the episodes so far. The main one being that Division is the big baddie and Nikita is the crusader trying to take it down.
While it does a decent job of keeping things even - Nikita, while a step ahead, does find herself in some hot waters quite often. It's the incompetence of the Division, that rubbing off the wrong way. Those are supposed to be the elite trained forces, but on many occasions they act like complete fools.
Perhaps, as the characters develop, it will settle in, but so far it's just a little above average, and need to shake things up soon. - CreatorChris CarterStarsDavid DuchovnyGillian AndersonMitch PileggiTwo F.B.I. I didn't catch all the episodes while it was airing on TV, so now's the time to do it + watch the re-boot season as well.
The show cleverly incorporates real-life events along with urban legends as part of its plot, which is one of the main reasons why it was so successful. In today's day and age there's a lot more information available online about these things so there isn't as much mystery anymore, but it still drives the curiosity for a lot of people.
Also, the technological advances make the older episodes look outdated and a little silly, but still the execution is pretty good.
Come to think of it, this show might have done a significant damage when it comes to people's trust in their government. That's not to say that the government doesn't engage in some shady stuff, but, if everything becomes a conspiracy theory, that's a big problem on its own and leads to some people living in a complete alternate reality. - CreatorAndrew SodroskiJim ClementeTony GittelsonStarsGethin AnthonyArliss HowardKelly JenretteAn in-depth look at how an FBI profiler helped track down the terrorist Ted Kaczynski, the Unabomber. The show manages to present the behind-the-scenes story in a quite compelling way. The pace is kinda slow, but it does an excellent job at building the suspense.

Great little show! There's quite a lot of a dark humor mixed with other hilarious moments.
Alan Tudyk plays the role of the alien perfectly and the rest of the cast is decent as well.
Season 1 was definitely much better than Season 2, cause it offered some fresh comedy, while 2nd season steered away from that path and focused on problems of secondary characters that weren't that likeable to begin with.
Hopefully, Season 3 can find again the charm that made this show interesting and funny.
Returning to Season 3, once I'm finished with Mr. Bean (1990) - StarsJack BlackRita OraJames HongFollow Po, who partners up with a no-nonsense English knight named Wandering Blade, to find a collection of four powerful weapons before a mysterious pair of weasels do, and save the world from destruction. The character of Poe (voiced by Jack Black) is certainly an entertaining one, however, in the Kung Fu Panda movies he worked well in an ensemble with other kung fu characters, while here he's on his own joined by other unknown characters (except his Dad), which doesn't work as well. Sure, he's still clumsy and funny in his own way, but it feels like something is missing.
The biggest issue this show has is the inconsistent power levels. They are made to work around the story, but they swing so wildly that the further we go, the less and less sense it makes. At one moment Po is the powerful Dragon Master, the next he's a scared helpless kid that can't do anything. As a result the viewer kinda loses interest in the story, cause things get conjured up when it's convenient.

It's focused on characters that play major roles in the new Marvel mini-series.
It's debatable whether the format could be different - something like a documentary with interviews of actors and writers involved. Each episode is quite short (around 10 mins or so). I suppose the main purpose of this TV series is to refreshen the memory of fans about each individual character and the main focus is on the mini-series themselves.

All the episodes are intertwined in some way, even though the time progression throughout the series is not linear. Season 1 (9*) was amazing and really powerful having many unexpected twists! A real-life drama of backstabbing at its finest. It presents the behind-the-scenes life of a top TV show where some big egos clash for having a say and power. The main focus, however, is on a subject of workplace harassment where the powerful exert their dominance inappropriately. The show brilliantly captures the mindset of many different groups: the perpetrators, the victims and the bystanders who decide to either keep quiet about it or speak out against it.
In Season 2 (8*) the show lost a bit of its charm. It was still interesting to watch the scheming and the mind games, but it lost a bit of its shock value.
From the workplace harassment storyarc the show moved onto PC culture, misogyny and cyber-bullying theme, but these don't work quite as well for driving the plot. Also there's a bit more of mixing actual events inside the fictional story, which might rub some people the wrong way.
In Season 3 (8*) the show returned back to its roots putting heavy emphasis on the power struggle and intrigues between the main characters. There's also a little bit culture message thing going on, but thankfully it's kept to a minimum. While I don't disagree with the message it's trying to send, it doesn't resonate well with the rest of the plot and seems somewhat artificial. While the start of the season was a little slow it finished out strong.
Even though the show is about a fictional media company, the lives and struggles of the people involved seem quite real. The writing for the most part is very good and it helps that the acting is on top level too across the board. - CreatorRyan J. CondalGeorge R.R. MartinStarsMatt SmithEmma D'ArcyOlivia CookeAn internal succession war within House Targaryen at the height of its power, 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen.8* after Season 1 -- on-hold until Season 2
Show focused around pre-history of GoT, specifically the Targaryen dynasty and their competition for the throne. Even for someone familiar with the lore, the beginning of the show might feel overwhelming, because of how many new characters are introduced at once, many of whom have similarly sounding names. At least in GoT the viewer was somewhat eased into the story.
Any GoT fan will clearly recognize the GoT vibes, the very obvious being the familiar orchestral tunes and the hefty dose of realism when it comes to the physical scenes.
While there are similar battles between different houses for the influence and power in the form of some backstabbing and forming of alliances, they mostly take form of intrigues than actual fights.
In Season 1 most of the fights are about the lines of succession and they are fought from the shadows. While it's watchable and the story is still interesting, it feels like the characters don't quite have the same pull as in the GoT. - CreatorKenneth BillerNoah PinkSuzan-Lori ParksStarsSamantha ColleySeth GabelAntonio BanderasThe life stories of history's greatest minds, from their days as young adults to their final years: their discoveries, loves, relationships, causes, flaws, and genius.Finished Season 4 -- on-hold until Season 5
An interesting series dramatizing the real lives of phenomenal personalities of 20th century, namely, Albert Einstein, Pablo Picasso and Aretha Franklin.
Season 1 - Einstein: while, he's known for his genius and quirky personality, his personal life has always been left out of the conversation, and his relationships did inspire him and make him grow just as for any artist. This season is very good at displaying that part of his life;
Season 2 - Picasso: as an artist and southerner, he's impulsive and often irrational in his relationships, and he moves from one muse to another, often leaving devastation in the wake. For an artistic genius he was, he was incredibly childish and egoistic, often hurting people closest to him. Only a small part of this season is about his art, most is spent on his endless love escapades;
Season 3 - Aretha: the constant jumping back and forth between her childhood and early recording years is a little distracting, but overall it reflects her life's journey well: from being a little shy girl singing at her father's church, to the Queen of Soul, who fought the stereotypes of the music industry and paved the way for musicians of next generations.
Season 4 - MLK/X: an interesting depiction of the lives of two men, who had a very different upbringing and journey in life, but came together to fight for the same goal of social justice and negro community - StarsHailee SteinfeldKevin AlejandroJason SpisakSet in Utopian Piltover and the oppressed underground of Zaun, the story follows the origins of two iconic League Of Legends champions and the power that will tear them apart.8* after Season 1 -- on-hold until Season 2
An interesting animation series focusing around a world where magic exists. More specifically around the city which is split in two halves - the underbelly Zaul and the high city of Piltower. It slightly reveals the troublesome history between the two, while keeping many things a mystery.
It certainly takes its time when it comes to developing the stories of the main characters before the actual conflict happens.
It's nicely animated and the voice-over work is pretty great too.
Some of the equipment choices for the main heroes are a bit questionable, but it's the characters themselves that carry the story. - CreatorMichael WaldronStarsTom HiddlestonOwen WilsonSophia Di MartinoThe mercurial villain Loki resumes his role as the God of Mischief in a new series that takes place after the events of “Avengers: Endgame.”8* after Season 2 -- ended ?
As one might expect from Loki, the God of Mischief, this show has a few tricks of its own and at times the viewer might question whether what's happening on the screen is real or it's an illusion. The concept of the Sacred Timeline and the Variants takes a while to figure out and overall the pace of the show is quite slow, but it never feels like an issue because of the good story.
The humor is quite good and Tom Hiddleston is in his element in the role of the titular character.
Season 1 was quite good and ended with a huge cliff-hanger, while Season 2 got a little mind-bendy with all the jumping around through different times and places. The ending was pretty satisfying and, as usual, with a little bit of tease about the things to come.
Overall this show is quite entertaining with a great ensemble of actors whose performance doesn't disappoint.
I wouldn't mind if they created Season 3 (which seems unlikely), to see more of these characters, cause this show so far appears to be the only worthy product (among the TV shows) Marvel has created after Endgame. - CreatorSteve BlackmanJeremy SlaterStarsAidan GallagherElliot PageTom HopperA family of former child heroes, now grown apart, must reunite to continue to protect the world.7.5* after Season 3 -- on-hold until Season 4
The premise of the show is intriguing. It starts off quite mysteriously and each episode reveals a little more details about the main characters and their past. At first the show is pretty vague about the powers that the main characters have, but with time the viewer gets to know each of them better and relate to their struggles. It's pretty clear from the beginning that the family is quite dysfunctional and so it the whole superhero team, but some apocalyptic events bring them together and it's quite fun to watch them figuring things out.
The acting is quite good and it offers some good comedy too. Some of the characters are pretty hilarious.
It's clear though, that the show is keeping some plot hidden and only hinting about other things happening behind the scenes. The mystery of some characters and the main plot keeps things interesting and in general the more the viewer gets invested in the characters, the more interesting the show becomes.

An interesting idea to explore alternate possibilities in the world of MCU. Some are more interesting, some less, but the execution is quite good. It brings back many popular characters, this time in an animation form.
The stories themselves are a bit of a mixed bag, some are quite interesting, but then there are some odd ducks. It's supposed to present alternate realities, but in Season 2 the stories start to get weirdly intertwined while also jumping around time and using the same characters, all of which ends up being really confusing.
Also the powers of the characters swing wildly and in some cases become quite unrealistic, which kinda makes it hard to believe in the story itself.

An expanded take on the movie Snowpiercer (2013) focusing more on the inhabitants and life on the train.
This show is slow-burner - Season 1 is a little bit hit-and-miss. Some episodes are interesting, but some are annoying because of the artificial drama. There are just too many plot holes in the story and the story overall feels disjointed. The viewer is constantly kept in the dark about some things and some others are just never explained. Also there's no real exposition to life before the Freeze (apart from a few flashback scenes) so the viewer can't really relate to many of the characters.
The way the class struggle is presented along with stories of the main characters doesn't feel cohesive. Probably the main reason why - the episodes are directed by different directors and their artistic vision doesn't mesh well together.
The episodes feel like train cars - they have a common underlying story, but they "live" a life of their own and not in a good way. It's quite annoying viewing experience when new things are introduced when it's convenient to advance the story or create more drama.
Jennifer Connelly is great in her role, being dominant and ruthless. It feels like the rest of the cast can't live up to her level.
The show definitely redeemed itself in Season 2. By adding Sean Bean to the lineup, the cast became stronger and he plays the ambitious and scheming Mr. Wilford excellently. By centering the story around strong personalities and their conflict the plot has become more enticing - something that it clearly lacked in Season 1.
Season 3 started off well with some hope for the humanity, but unfortunately the 2nd half of it was incredibly boring and weak by returning to the same artificial personal drama and power struggle. It's time to pack things up for this one - the ending of Season 3 was about as good as it should be. Another season of this roundabout dance will completely ruin anything good that was there about this show. The writing has fallen by the wayside and the characters are starting to become parodies of themselves. If they decide to create Season 4, it will be more of the same power struggle, repackaged to look a little different and that just won't cut it anymore. - CreatorGreg DanielsStarsRobbie AmellAndy AlloAllegra EdwardsAfter his premature death, a man's consciousness is uploaded into a virtual world. As he gets comfortable with his surroundings, questions about his death arise.6* after Season 3 -- on-hold until Season 4
Overall a decent show - I like the premise of possible afterlife by means of technology. However there's less focus on psychological aspect of someone coping with being a virtual conscience and more about how the technology is driven by a profit motive. While some of the jokes that poke fun at humanity and our dependency on technology are fun, they get quite repetitive. For the most part the writing is good, but it also has a fair share of cringey moments.
In comparison, I'd say that Season 2 was a bit more interesting, but it continued the see-saw tendency of some interesting and genuinely funny storylines mixed with scenes with cheap jokes and uninteresting characters.
While Season 3 (5,5*) had some good story moments, overall it was rather disappointing, the jokes got dumbed down even more and at times the characters acted weird and/or stupid to say the least.
The idea of the show has potential, unfortunately, after 3 seasons it hasn't been able to achieve it and it seems it never will. Its biggest problem is the kindergarten level comedy which clashes with its main idea. With smarter writing it could be great, but I see no way of that happening, so it'll remain in the status of mediocrity. - CreatorPatrick McKayJohn D. This show is average at best - it's mostly flashy things with very little substance.
Its biggest selling point are the recognizable characters from the Lord of the Rings movies, that the viewers were invested previously. No doubt, the fans were excited to learn more about the origins of these characters and how they arrived at the events of Hobbit and the LotR. Unfortunately, the show is trying to fit the world and its characters into modern social and political landscape in order to appeal to wider audiences. As a result, the supposed diversity seriously clashes with the lore and the story itself. Yes, there are some decent ideas, which are likely taken from the Silmarillion (the J.R.R. Tolkien book this was based on), but unfortunately they get undermined by some silly subplots. It's amazing how a multi-billion dollar company decided to hand the writing of the script to such a monumental IP to a couple on no-name individuals and hope it'll work out.
The acting is a mixed bag as well, many of the characters appear incredibly fake and their constant moralizing gets annoying fast. - CreatorDan EricksonStarsAdam ScottZach CherryBritt LowerMark leads a team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between their work and personal lives.
