First Color Films of Classic Film Actors
While color films have been around since the earliest days of cinema when kinemacolor was introduced in 1909. But despite the technology being available, it was very expensive and most movies up to the 1950s were filmed in black and white.
Things changed in the 1960s when color television sales skyrocketed and urged by TV networks, film studios started having color as their default choice and black and white films declined till our days, when they keep existing mostly as an aesthetic choice of filmmakers.
Many film stars worked when black and white films were the default option, and as such, we usually see the biggest stars of Hollywood Golden Age in a monochrome palette, however most of them did appear in color films.
Here are the first color films of some of the biggest stars of classic cinema.
Which one is your favorite and, if you haven't seen them, which one do you want to see the most?
Note: actors whose first film was in color are excluded, uncredited roles partially and hand-colored films are not considered.
