An attempt to fathom the personal life of the great Russian writer Ivan Bunin.

The film centres on Mike, a businessman in decidedly the new Russian mould. When Mike gets stung on a deal, his suspicions immediately fall on Lev, who receives the customary torture to make him reveal where the money has gone.

Ivan is the grandson of a military fighter pilot. The film explores the years of Ivan's adolescence through the prism of a trauma he incurred during an incident in the war.

Many years later, two elderly people meet. As children, they were evacuated from besieged Leningrad to an orphanage in Siberia. Then a feeling was just emerging between them, and they were separated into different orphanages. And now the feeling flares up again.

The story of the last year and a half of Tsar Nicholas II and his family from the February Revolution of 1917 to their execution in July 1918.

The beautiful Tanya returns to her small mining town, after supposedly working as a model in Moscow. She decides to marry her shy school sweetheart Mishka, who now works in the mine. The miners finally receive some pay, but Mishka still ends up with no money to buy his bride a gift, so he seeks the help of his perpetually drunk buddy Garkusha. Mishka's poor working-class family all help to put on a fine wedding with copious amounts of vodka, even though they are suspicious of Tanya's occupation in Moscow, and of her connection with her Mafia ex-boyfriend Borodin.

In the army they teach you that everything must be smart and in order - cockades, straps and all, otherwise you're not fit to call yourself a person, you're a maggot. For a real man, there's no better place than the army.

Arthur Conan Doyle is a successful writer and a good doctor. He is happy to live in his own big house, with his wife and children. The only thing that upsets him is that his books about Sherlock Holmes are more popular than everyone else. But Sherlock Holmes Doyle considers his worst work. In working on stories, he is assisted by the literary agent Mr. Wood, who is preparing an anniversary collection of stories about Sherlock Holmes on the eve of the 20th century. And the housewife is engaged in by a young maid Anna Kew, who frankly does not like Wood. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle receives a huge mail every day, addressed not to him, but to Sherlock Holmes. And then one day a letter comes with a plea for help from the British Indian George Edalji, who claims that he is unfairly accused of the brutal murder of another's pony. Conan Doyle decides to start an investigation. Life presents Doyle with unpleasant surprises: his wife is seriously ill and unexpectedly dies in terrible agony. Doyle, crushed by grief, decides to forever deal with the hated Holmes and writes a story about his death. Unexpectedly for Doyle, Wood leaves immediately after writing the story. Soon, at a meeting with the king of Great Britain, Doyle says that he will write a continuation of the story, where Holmes returns alive and unharmed. In parallel with this, from time to time, the adventures of Sherlock Holmes are shown, which take place as if in the imagination of Doyle, Wood and Kew.

The series is about three different Soviet families of military personnel, but the plot is based on the so-called "love triangle" - the line of relations between Ivan, Marina and her legal husband Nikita.
