- I know this is THE Frankenstein movie in the public's mind, but frankly I usually don't care for the Universal Monster movies. Talkies being a new concept, these movies tend to be all about hammy pantomime acting and the monster actor starring intensely at the camera. I always prefer the Hammer Studios versions of these classic monsters...

I assume they added "The Curse of" to differentiate it from the 1931 Universal movie.

Has even less to do with the Mary Shelley story; this is campy, creative fun.

Universal went on the make a slew of sequels following the monster. (why?)AddedOct 14, 2024 - The movie closest to the Book. Meh. That doesn't make it great.

- The Hammer Studios sequels follow Victor Frankenstein as played by the charismatic and creepy Peter Cushing.
Besides Cushing himself, there isn't much continuity in this franchise, Victor Frankenstein vacillates from likable and misunderstood to evil and monstrous between movies.

This one isn't great. Hammer had made a deal with Universal and copyright was no longer an issue, so Hammer pretty much redid the original story with lots of visuals from the 1931 movie

%63 on Rotten TomatoesAddedOct 14, 2024 - The second X-files movie crammed together two Monster-of-the-week plots and it didn't really work. The 'Scully reluctantly gets help from a creepy psychic to catch a serial killer' plot had already been done much better in the episode 'Beyond the Sea'. I wish they'd just focused on the other plot, about the Frankenstein-like doctor kidnapping people and stitching together abominations.
Perhaps some skilled editor out there could cut this movie in half and make one good Frankenstein Doctor episode.
