IMDb's 2025 TV Guide

Noah Wylie reunites with "ER" writer/showrunner John Wells for another trip to the hospital. Set in Pittsburgh, "The Pitt" does something new for TV: the 15-episode season will follow Dr. Michael Robinavitch (Wylie) and his colleagues over a single 15-hour shift. Turns out Wylie and Wells wanted the series to be an actual sequel to "ER," but they were unable to secure its rights, so they reformed "The Pitt" as a spiritual sequel instead. The series should boost the profiles of Wylie's co-stars Tracy Ifeachor, Fiona Dourif, Isa Briones, Katherine LaNasa, and others.

It’s time to close the book on Gilead, the handmaids, and the woman at the center of the revolution. Season 6 of this dystopian adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s classic novel marks the end of the series, which has been on the air for nearly a decade starting in 2017. Although June escaped the totalitarian “Divine Republic” back in Season 4, the final 10 episodes sees the revolutionary return to help lead the army of handmaidens in an all-out rebellion. All of the main players return to resolve their stories, including Elisabeth Yvonne Strahovski, Bradley Whitford, Max Minghella, Ann Dowd, O.T. Fagbenle, Samira Wiley, Madeline Brewer, with D’arcy Carden (“The Good Place,” “Barry”) joining the cast to close out the series. If you’re feeling sad to see your favorite series end, never fear. Hulu has already announced they’ll be adapting Atwood’s sequel, “The Testaments,” into a spin-off series.

You don’t want to go into a “Black Mirror” episode knowing too much. The series’ shocking twists and turns are the reason fans keep tuning in year after year. So what can be revealed about the seventh season of this cyber thriller? In many ways the latest installments will be going “back to basics,” says series creator Charlie Brooker, who claims these six episodes are “a little bit OG.” We’re also getting a follow-up to the award-winning “USS Callister” in the series’ first sequel. But if those tidbits don’t intrigue, the impressive cast is sure to do the trick, including Cristin Milioti, Awkwafina, Emma Corrin, Paul Giamatti, Rashida Jones, Billy Magnussen, Chris O’Dowd, Issa Rae, and Tracee Ellis Ross just to name a few.

Tension on the set of Deborah Vance's talk show should be centerstage as "Hacks" returns for Season 4 this year. When we last were in Las Vegas, the power struggle between DV and her employee Ava Daniels tipped in Ava's favor after she outmaneuvered Deborah and secured the role as her show's head writer. Coming off Season 3 Emmy win for Outstanding Comedy Series, we're curious how the new season's subplots will play out. Will Marcus ditch DV for QVC? What will Kayla be like as a partner in Jimmy’s management agency? Is DV ready to be a grandmother? And how will the season set up what's reported to be its fifth, potentially final outing?

For lovers of both the video games and Max series, in 2025 we will be returning to the clicker-, runner-, and bloater-infected world that is "The Last of Us." Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey elevated this post-apocalyptic drama with their on-screen chemistry fortifying their bond the 9-episode first season. Their on-screen journey takes its time developing the characters we're so accustomed to playing. Thriving in the details, the creators know when to (and when not to) lean into the source material. Season 2 picks up where we left off, with Joel and Ellie in Jackson, reconciling with the aftermath of their visit to the Fireflies' lab. Those who have played Part II of the game anxiously wait to see the inevitable, while the rest of us try our best not to get spoiled.

Season 2 premieres on Max April 13

Dominique Thorne reprises her role as tech genius and MIT student Riri Williams in the upcoming six-episode miniseries. Although not much has been revealed about the plot, we do know that it takes place after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and will be (at least partially) set in Riri's hometown of Chicago. Joining the cast are Alden Ehrenreich, Anthony Ramos, Cree Summer, and Sacha Baron Cohen who is rumored to be playing the demon Mephisto, but as MCU fans have been predicting Mephisto's arrival in every series since "WandaVision" we'll have to wait and see if he makes an appearance.

The seemingly immortal Dexter Morgan returns for a second sequel series which, whether fans want to know or not, how (or if?) the avenging angel survived the freezing waters of Iron Lake, New York in the finale of "Dexter: New Blood." We don’t expect to learn much about the show while the prequel series "Dexter: Original Sin" airs through the winter, though franchise showrunner Clyde Phillips has re-teamed with Michael C. Hall for the resurrection. There is, of course, active debate online whether the franchise is careening off the rails or righting the wrongs of the original series, and as of early 2025, there's no current news on the "Trinity Killer" prequel series centered around the serial killer played by John Lithgow.

No Ripley. No Earth as we've come to know it. No "beautiful Apple store technology" powering the special effects. This much we know about "Fargo" creator Noah Hawley's Alien series – oh, erm, aside from its storyline possibly retconning the entire franchise. The teaser trailer released near the end of 2024 revealed the series will be set in 2120, two years prior to Alien – not, as originally announced by Hawley, three decades before the first movie. Sydney Chandler, most recently seen in the Colin Farrell series "Sugar," plays a "meta-human" and property of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, which is racing against other companies to create synthetic beings. While the main story will focus on the group of soldiers who discover the first Xenomorph to reach Earth, expect to learn a lot more about Weyland-Yutani over 8+ hours of television as Hawley takes a risk with franchise canon after Alien: Romulus righted the ship with fans.

Here's a question we have about this prequel series set in the scariest town in the Stephen King multiverse: Who would have played Pennywise if Bill Skarsgård didn't finally agree to haunt the sewers once again as the shapeshifting, dancing clown? Filming on the series had commenced before Skarsgård’s return was announced by HBO and Andy and Barbara Muschietti, who hope the origin series is as well received as It Chapter One and, of course, the original miniseries that stills haunts us 90s kids. Heading back to the 1960s alongside Skarsgård in his first post-Nosferatu role will be Jovan Adepo, Taylour Paige, James Remar, and regular visits from Madeleine Stowe.

Be prepared for a very different Westeros in HBO’s latest “Game of Thrones” prequel series. Based on George R. R. Martin’s “Tales of Dunk and Egg” novellas, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” follows a newly minted knight and his squire on their adventures throughout the land 90 years before the Starks, Targaryens, and Lannisters. According to Martin, the six-episode season is “smaller in scale, more personal, with more humor, more focus on character … but there is danger and death as well.” Newcomers Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell star as the leading duo, and we’re excited to see where executive producers Ira Parker and Owen Harris — you know him as the director of the only heartwarming “Black Mirror” episode, “San Junipero” — take this lighter look at a beloved fantasy world.

If you're one of the many Taylor Sheridan fans who jumped in their seats when Jefferson White confirmed that he’ll be returning as Jimmy Hurdstrom in Season 5 Part 2 of "Yellowstone," then you'll be equally (if not more) excited for the upcoming spin-off "6666," set at the very ranch Jimmy was sent to by John Dutton in the Season 4. Coming in as an inexperienced ranch hand, Jimmy learns hard and fast that 6666's ranch is larger than any pond he's worked at, and it's sink or swim for him. While few details have been released, we hope to see Jimmy and his newfound love interest Emily at the west Texas ranch. The Taylor Sheridan universe is only expanding, and "6666" will bring a modern twist to the prequel heavy works we've seen thus far.

Filming has wrapped on the final season of this beloved supernatural horror series, which cemented terms like the Upside Down and demagorgon in our collective vocabulary, and fans are waiting impatiently to be transported back to 1987 Hawkins, Indiana to close out the adventure. We've all grown up alongside the cast of former kids, who have since become household names, and can't wait to see what awaits Eleven, Mike, Dusty, Lucas, and the rest of the crew. Joining the cast for Season 5 are Nell Fisher, Jake Connelly, Alex Breaux, and none other than Linda Hamilton (Teminator) in an undisclosed role, which has us screaming internally in anticipation.

Ryan Murphy’s controversial true crime series is returning in 2025, and this time the focus will be on serial killer Ed Gein. Charlie Hunnam stars as Gein, with Laure Metcalf joining the cast as his mother, Augusta. Let's just say the relationship between mother and son was disturbing. As dark as it is to say, Gein has long been a source of inspiration in Hollywood, influencing aspects of fictional killers like Psycho’s Norman Bates and The Silence of the Lambs’ Buffalo Bill. It seems that the murder’s status as a grotesque muse will be explored in the series, as it’s been announced Tom Hollander and Olivia Williams will portray Alfred and Alma Hitchcock in this third installment of the anthology series.

If you've been itching for another family drama within a company, not unlike "Succession" or "The Bear," "Black Rabbit" appears to be a promising successor. Starring Jude Law and Jason Bateman as brothers set in New York City, we are eagerly waiting for more details to come out. The Netflix limited series will also serve as a reunion for Jason Bateman and Laura Linney, the former "Ozark" co-stars will direct different episodes of the mini-series. With the "King Richard" screenwriter Zach Baylin working on this original script, we are in for a sharply written and excellently directed limited series.

This isn't the first time actor Glen Powell has played a Chad on the small screen (“Scream Queens,” anyone?), and yet his portrayal of Chad Powers in the new Hulu series of the same name may be the silliest. Co-created and produced by Powell and Michael Waldron (“Loki,” “Rick and Morty”), “Chad Powers” follows college quarterback Russ Holliday as he disguises himself in an attempt to return the game after his bad behavior gets him dismissed. If the premise sounds familiar, it may be because the show is inspired by a sketch from actual football star Eli Manning created for his “Eli’s Place” series on ESPN+. Along for the ride are a whole host of excellent comedic actors, including Steve Zahn, Toby Huss, Clayne Crawford, Perry Mattfeld, and Xavier Mills.

If love is just a chemical reaction that compels animals to breed, than "Rick and Morty" has reinvigorated our nervous system as it enters its eighth season. The core relationship between cynical, brash scientist Rick and his now-multi-universe-vetted fourteen Morty has been nothing short of engaging in Season 7. There's plenty of online discourse about the show's later seasons. It isn't a secret the show has taken some creative liberties in their writers' room, most notably having the staff inserted into the storyline to air their grievances about fan complaints. Critically analyzing the media you are consuming is good — it's even better when it feels like the creators are listening.

Following a Season 4 jaunt in Rome, we've learned that "Emily in Paris" will return to the City of Lights for Season 5, set to begin filming in spring 2025. Questions have surfaced of whether Emily Cooper's on-again-off-again love interest Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) will return, but it seems to be trending positively — but how that relationship will fare with Italian beau, Marcello, remains to the seen. In the meantime, Agence Grateau is opening for business in Rome with Cooper leading the charge — what will lure her back to the city which first won her heart?

Season 5 expected in 2025 on Netflix

When news broke that our favorite Manhattan ladies were coming back together to explore relationships, grief, and life in their fifties, fans proceeded with caution. Then when it was noted that our beloved sexually empowered and unconventional publicist, Samantha Jones would not be returning. We were skeptical. How could we revise such an iconic group without everyone in it? Despite our Upper East Side legacy not returning, the re-boot takes strides to not only honor "Sex and the City," but expanding upon its themes and humor in an entirely new generation. "And Just Like That" approaches conversations about pronouns, sexual identity, and queerness with two perspectives: one that shares the experience, and one that follows our Gen X characters' path to learning, understanding and being empathetic to these experiences. While not perfect, Season 2 showed that change is possible and feedback is being heard, with charisma being re-instated, new characters getting buildable storylines, and light-heartedness that was so desperately needed in Season 1. And just like that ... anticipation built for the next season.

Mick Herron’s “Slough House” novels have provided the basis for each season of the Apple TV+ hit, and Season 5 is expected to follow the fifth book, “London Rules,” which focuses on a member of Parliament who has it out for MI5. Fans of the acclaimed show will also be happy to know that Apple has already renewed “Slow Horses” for a sixth season, so there are plenty of adventures to come for Jackson Lamb and his motley crew of reject intelligence agents.

The NCIS franchise is no stranger to spin-offs, with series set in Los Angeles and New Orleans. The newest series, announced in late February 2024, centers around original characters Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David, one of our favorite slow burn, will-they-won't-they relationships. The show will pick up where "NCIS" Season 17 left off, with Tony reuniting with a very much alive Ziva to raise their daughter together in Paris. The chemistry between these two characters feels natural and earned, as we have seen them through every, jealous antic, breakup, and kidnapping that the show could throw at them. "Tiva" has a lot of ground to cover in their new storyline, needing to trust one another again to combat security threats on DiNozzo's company. Their already expansively complex relationship will be put to the forefront in this enticing new spin-off.
