Kalyn Ponga and the Newcastle Knights host Mitchell Moses and the Parramatta Eels in a blockbuster clash at McDonald Jones Stadium.
After finally ending their five-game losing streak in the Magic Round, the Knights fell back into their old ways. They squandered a 20-point lead in their defeat against the Titans last week.
This match will see the Knights centre Dane Gagai ready for his 300th NRL game as the team looks to bounce back with a win in Newcastle.
Dylan Lucas will switch to the centres, with Thomas Cant joining the starting side alongsideTyson Gamble in the halves with Jack Cogger dropping out in a late switch. Coach Adam O’Brien meanwhile revealed winger Greg Marzhew could return early after initially being ruled out for 4-6 weeks. “He’s had some surgery on an MCL,” coach Adam O’Brien said. “I think it was initially 4-6 (weeks), but he’s a very good healer. “He’s very optimistic and he’s told me ‘I’ll be right for next week’, but I don’t think that’s the case. “It’s not an extended thing, so he’ll be back before you know it.”
According to Code Sports, Ryan Matterson is set to join the bench ahead of the Eels’ clash with the Knights. The clash will mark the $600,000 a season veteran’s second NRL appearance of the year, having been told last week he was free to negotiate with rivals.
Meanwhile, the Eels suffered their seventh loss of the season in last week's 16-20 defeat to the Dolphins. While they made plenty of chances to take the lead, they wasted all of them and are currently 17th on the ladder.
However, they have a good record against the Knights, winning in seven of their past eight meetings.
The Sporting News is on hand to bring you all the latest TV, scheduling, and live streaming information ahead of this match.
The Knights won the only match against the Eels in 2024, beating Parramatta 34-26 at McDonald Jones Stadium.
The win for Newcastle was the first against the blue and gold in seven matches.
The previous four matches between the Knights and Eels has gone over the game total.
