Penrith hosts Newcastle in the most unlikely of NRL basement battles in Bathurst. Later, the Roosters take on the Sharks in Gosford.
The Panthers are depleted due to the State of Origin and will be forced to field a severely weakened side this weekend. NSW has picked Nathan Cleary, Isaah Yeo, Dylan Edwards, Brian To'o, and Liam Martin, making them unavailable against the Knights.
Ivan Cleary’s Panthers have been decimated due to Origin, with Brian To’o, Dylan Edwards, Isaah Yeo, Liam Martin and Nathan Cleary picked for NSW.
Throw in the mix Luke Garner, Isaiah Papali’i and Mav Geyer being sidelined after a concussion and MCL injuries respectively and Penrith’s depth is being tested.
However, in their place a host of unheralded stars get their opportunity to shine with 27-year-old Austin Dias playing his first NRL game for Penrith.
After a bye in Round 11, the Panthers come into this clash after having rediscovered some form, winning two of their last three matches. It remains to be seen if they can continue their ten-game winning streak against the Knights at Bathurst.
Meanwhile, the Knights make the trip without skipper Kalyn Ponga and will need to bounce back quickly, having lost six of their last seven games. They are just behind the Panthers (13th) on the points ladder at 15th, but could overtake them with a win this Saturday.
The Sporting News is on hand to bring you all the latest TV, scheduling, and live streaming information ahead of this match.
