Milena Markovna "Mila" Kunis is a Ukrainian-American actress born to a Jewish family in Chernivtsi, Ukraine.
Kunis' family moved to the United States due to antisemitism in the former Soviet Union. Her parents, despite Soviet restrictions on religious practices, instilled in her as much of their Jewish heritage as possible. Once in Los Angeles, she was enrolled at Rosewood Elementary School. She struggled in school due to her lack of English skills and hyperactivity, which quickly led to a diagnosis of ADHD and a prescription for Ritalin-a medication she continues to take as an adult.
