-Miranda Chan is a movement artist and director. Her work fuses her passion for energetic movement and profound sense of visual aesthetic. Her earliest introduction to movement was through gymnastics and dance at age 7, which she then later pursued at a competitive level. Later in her adulthood, she discovered her fascination with photography and video making. It first began with her being in front of the lens, however she later discovered that she found equal joy and purpose being behind the camera as well.
Chan completed her post-secondary education at the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal (Canada), where she received her diploma in the interpretation of contemporary dance. Always striving for excellence, she spent her summer after her first year at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre where she performed a creation by Carlos De Santos. During her journey at the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal she had the chance to work with Mélanie Demers, Virginie Brunelle, Manon Oligny, Ismael Mouaraki, Catherine Gaudet and Peter Jasko to name a few.
Since graduating she has received a scholarship to train with RUBBERBANDance at their annual summer intensive at Domaine Forget and did an apprenticeship for them. She has also worked with Cirque du Soleil, Cirque Éloize and the Symphonic Orchestra of Montreal. In 2018, she participated in Project FLY, a project offered to 6 graduates of École de danse contemporaine de Montréal, selected through an audition process to take part in a remunerated internship guided by a professional choreographer. During this project she collaborated with Parts & Labour Danse. In 2020, Chan began a project called "Political Bodies"; this project acts as a form of empowerment for those within the work and those who interact with it. A place where marginalized bodies can rise and take their space, be heard and share. It aims to demonstrate and communicate the various roles dance has in our society and how it is often the forgotten route back towards our true selves, while also used as a tool towards becoming bigger than ourselves. Chan creates narratives that re-imagines a more liberated collective future and comments on social phenomenons through various mediums of digital and live performances.- Actress
