“The Masked Singer” is back later this month, and Variety has the first look at one of the opening performances — as well as a reveal of two more costumes. First up, here’s “Ship,” who performs a slowed down, moody version of Bastille’s “Pompeii” in the season premiere episode airing Wednesday, Sept 25th on Fox.
And then, there are two more costume reveals: “Leaf Sheep” and “Woodpecker,” who join “Ship” and the previously revealed “Chess Piece.”
Chess Piece, “The Masked Singer”
New this season, clues will be “strategically embedded in costumes, in song choices and on-stage moments.” And the fifteen celebrity contestants will be endorsed by a “celebrity Masked Ambassador,” made up of previous participants including Dick Van Dyke (Season 9’s Gnome), Jewel (Season 6 winner as the Queen of Hearts), Ne-yo (Season 10 winner as the Cow) and DeMarcus Ware (Season 11’s Koala).

“The Masked Singer” winner Vanessa Hudgens admits she didn’t necessarily play the hiding game: At least among her friends and fans, they figured out it was her under the Goldfish costume rather quickly.
“Rita [Ora] guessed it was me straight from the jump,” Hudgens said. “But she’s also my friend. And we saw each other a few days before the first episode!”
Hudgens beat out Scott Porter, who had performed this season as Gumball, to win the “Masked Singer” trophy. Coincidentally, both Hudgens and Porter previously starred together in 2009’s “Bandslam.”
Despite their history, Hudgens said the production kept her completely in the dark as to who her competitors were. “I was so invested every step of the way,” she said. “I was trying really hard to...

“What if the Y2K bug was real” feels like such an obvious concept that it’s surprising that it took so long to come up with it. At its best, the teen horror comedy Y2K will make you feel glad that Kyle Mooney and Evan Winter were the first to the punch. This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the series being reviewed here wouldn't exist.
Video games have the ability to transport players to interactive worlds beyond their wildest imagination, defeat bosses to become the hero they wish they could be in real life, and step inside an identity that they wouldn't otherwise understand. Or, in the case of a game like "Twisted Metal," drive an armored ice cream truck and blow up enemies with a remote-controlled rocket launcher. The vehicular combat video game was the lifeblood of the Dorito-dusted finger lickers of America in the late '90s and early 00s, and while there is a story players can follow ... most people opt to obliterate their pals with nuclear weapons. Yet, somehow, Peacock adapted the game into one of the most entertaining new series of the year.

Los Angeles Lakers power forward Anthony Davis was drafted with the first overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft by the then-New Orleans Hornets. In 2019, he was traded to the Lakers and has played for the team ever since. But despite being a member of one of the most well-known and storied franchises in basketball, the athlete is pretty private about his personal life and the woman he’s married to.
Here’s what we know about Anthony Davis’ wife Marlen Polonco Davis.

Fans have been waiting on the Charter School battle, and Abbott Elementary did not disappoint. The team confronted the oncoming vote for the school's future together, and it was a riot.
Draymond, a former student of Barbara's and their primary antagonist, was played by the astonishingly talented Leslie Odom, Jr. His character was sleazy and phony, but he carried it oh so well.
On Abbott Elementary Season 2 Episode 19, the staff banded together, and it further solidified Abbott's place in the community and on television.
The writers had a field day because everyone was in their hilarious element. They even featured newer teachers who stole their respective scenes. This episode is undoubtedly worth the watch.
It had that feel-good vibe of knowing that a community could come together for more than just a good time. The show is building not only a community but a world, and it's engaging and...

Sisqó took to the American Song Contest stage—with nary a thong in sight. The Grammy-nominated "Thong Song" singer represented his home state of Maryland on the April 18 episode of the nationwide singing competition show. Before Sisqó and 10 other new performers could take to the stage, three artists from last week earned automatic semifinal berths. Following in the footsteps of Washington's Allen Stone, who won the automatic jury vote, Massachusetts' Jared Lee, Georgia's Stela Cole and New Hampshire's MARi booked their tickets in the next round. The results meant Edm legend The Crystal Method failed to earn a trip the semifinals, which begin April...

How are we supposed to live without Michael Bolton? “American Song Contest” doesn’t have to answer that question just yet, as Connecticut-based Bolton and his song “Beautiful World” could still place next week through a combination of votes through fans and jurors.
But the early lead on night one of NBC’s U.S. take on the Eurovision Song Contest went to Rhode Island’s Hueston, wearing his heart on his sleeve with the tear-jerker “Held on Too Long.” Hueston most impressed the 56-member juror panel — which includes iHeartMedia chief programming officer/president Tom Poleman, Klos host and former MTV VJ Matt Pinfield and artist/songwriter/producer Ester Dean. He was the first from this group to qualify to move on from this round.

An incredibly hyped Kelly Clarkson promised that “American Song Contest,” which premieres Monday, March 21 on on NBC, has “everything but a polka artist.”
During a virtual panel on Monday, Clarkson said the songwriting competition from producers of “The Voice” and Europe’s long-running annual contest Eurovision, is exactly what viewers need right now.
“People just need [something like this]. They need to be lifted up because the world is heavy right now,” she said. “It represents so many different pockets of the world… It’s going to open up all this conversation. We’ve been divided in this country for quite a bit, but we’re all more similar more than not.”
She added, “It’s been a very hard couple of years [because of the pandemic] and now it’s getting even more serious in the news. I think feeling like you’re not isolated and that you are a part of something bigger than your everyday world…...

The tale of a vigilante hero of the people named Robin Hood stealing from the rich to help provide for the poor has been told and retold since the 13th century. Now in the 21st century, when we are living in a bleak timeline of wealth inequality and one of the most staggering unequal distribution of assets in history, the story of Robin Hood is getting an updated and modernized retelling from Director X, the prolific director of such music videos as "Bootylicious" by Destiny's Child, "Work" by Rihanna, "Thong Song" by Sisqó, "Yeah" by Usher featuring Lil Jon and...

New York R&b singer and producer Amber Mark made her debut in 2017 with 3:33Am, a movingly grief-stricken ode to her dead mother. It was a strikingly personal statement for a first release, and during the recording of her second EP, the bossa-nova-influenced Conexão, she struggled to match its emotional heft. “I was just throwing songs away because they weren’t deep enough or good enough,” she said in an interview at the time.

Welcome to our weekly column Can’t Miss Episode of the Week! Every Saturday we’ll be spotlighting a different episode of television from that week that we thought was exceptional and a must-see. Check back to see if your favorite show got the nod — or to learn about a new one! DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is known for its zany season finales. The past couple of finales alone included an epic battle with history’s worst villains as Sisqó himself performed “Thong Song,” and relied on a magical theme park to help send a demon back to Hell. And let’s not forget Beebo. Well, the Season 6 send-off, which aired on September 5, is no less crazy. In true Legends style, the time-traveling team makes a last ditch effort to stop an alien invasion, all while trying to give Sara (Caity Lotz) and Ava (Jes Macallan) their dream wedding...

Legendary host and Mc Dashaun Wesley first discovered his love of dance at just 4 years old, competing in yearly dance-offs to celebrate his Brooklyn, NY neighborhood. Then came his introduction to the world of voguing - a highly stylized form of modern dance that often imitates poses struck by models on a catwalk, and evolved from the ballroom scene.
As a kid, Wesley struggled to find mentorship and a place to fit in as a young, Black, gay dancer. At 14 years old, things cleared up for him while walking down Christopher Street in New York City's West Village. "I saw this one guy playing vogue music from a huge boom box," he told Popsugar. "He had a crowd following him, so I started following them. A young intrigued Dashaun wanted to learn about that world. From that day on, I kept coming back so I could...

It wouldn't be a DC's Legends of Tomorrow finale with a bit of time jumping, chaos, and ... a Shake Weight?
It was up to the Legends to restore free will in the world on DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 5 Episode 14 after Lachesis used Gideon to gain power and exert her control.
The hour was full of sadness and goodbyes that were disguised as light-hearted humor, keeping up with the theme of the show while also tying off some loose ends.
Why must they tease us with Zari 1.0 if she was only going to stay around for a couple of episodes?
Yes, they intended for Nate to get some closure as he has been struggling to remember the old timeline with Zari 1.0 for all of DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 5, but it felt like anything but closure for the two lovebirds.

The Backstreet Boys stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night and revealed some interesting tidbits about their career in the process. During their appearance, the host decided to get to the bottom of some longtime myths about the band. Namely, that Ryan Gosling was almost a member of the Backstreet Boys and that the band was in a feud with *Nsync in the '90s. While they assured fans that there was never any rivalry, they do have one regret: letting *Nsync perform the halftime show at the 2001 Super Bowl.

Where is Sisqó when you need him? Well, it turns out that maybe you don’t need him — and also we’re not going to make the obvious and mean-spirited joke about what the “Thong Song” singer may be doing for a living these days.
On Tuesday, Jimmy Fallon assembled a new version of his barbershop quarter, The Ragtime Gals, to perform a very different remix of Sisqó’s ode to skimpy swimwear. This time, the group was a sextet.
Save Fallon, the regular Gals weren’t needed for this one — because nine grown men wearing these goofy outfits while harmonizing a cappella to the silly 1999 hit would just be ridiculous. Enter: The Backstreet Boys. They really wanna see that thong. That thong thong thong thong thong.

Derek King’s “Tetris” is a baffling song, even by streaming’s everything-goes standards. It’s built around the melody of Sisqó’s 2000 hit “Thong Song,” but comes with a Bay area bounce. Instead of comparing butts to dump trucks, King’s lyrics are more interested in using the famous puzzle game as a horny metaphor. “So baby, come sit that booty/Make it fit like it’s Tetris,” he raps, before transitioning into a processed vocal run.
It’s a lot, almost too much, but that’s part of the charm.

When Sony Pictures asked Director X to remake 1972 blaxploitation classic “Super Fly,” he had never seen the original. He had also never helmed a studio feature — just a 2015 indie, a Lifetime movie (“Center Stage: On Pointe”), and some of the most memorable music videos of the past 20 years, from Sisqó’s “Thong Song” to Drake’s “Hotline Bling,” viewed more than 1.4 billion times on YouTube.
However, while Director X created visuals for Jay-z, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Usher, Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber, and Lil Wayne, “Lethal Weapon” and “Matrix” franchises producer Joel Silver struggled to get his “Super Fly” revamp made. “Joel had the rights, he had a studio that wanted to make it,” Director X told IndieWire. “The studio told him, ‘We don’t want to call it ‘Super Fly,’ and we don’t want it to be about anything that the original movie was about.'”

Alessia Cara pulled off an upset at the 2018 Grammy Awards when she won Best New Artist over Sza. She became the 26th solo female singer to claim this awards since it was introduced at the second Grammys ceremony in 1959. While the first winner was “Mack the Knife” singer Bobby Darin won) , only 12 more male artists have taken this prize home since then. Groups or or collaborative acts have won this top honor 18 times. (Take a tour of all 59 winners in the photo gallery above.)
The Grammy Award for Best New Artist has been given out every year since 1959, with the exception of 1967. The most dubious winner has to be the duo Milli Vanilli, which won the award in 1989 only to have it rescinded a year later when it was revealed that they were lip syncing.
They were just one of the winning acts that have been cursed by this award.

The year 2000 brought some undeniably memorable moments: Y2K, hanging chads, the quickly shuttered Millennium Dome. And, of course, “Thong Song.” Yes, Sisqó’s smash-hit of a single from his multi-platinum debut solo album, Unleash the Dragon, which wonderfully celebrated the art of butt floss and has remained a staple of turn-of-the-century playlists. But what was life like for the man himself circa “Thong Song” madness? To find out, Dan Hyman spoke to Sisqó for this as-told-to piece. Though it seems hard to believe, Nov. 30 is the 15th anniversary of the release of SisQo's debut album Unleash the Dragon, a.k.a. the record that brought us the crazy catchy track "Thong Song."
The album was an instant smash and sold six million copies in the U.S.
But when Et talked to SisQo back in 1999, he was confident that "Thong Song" was going to be huge. "My next single off of my new album [is] the 'Thong Song,' which is going to be like an international supersmash," he told Et before the single was even released. "It's going to be really big."
The 36-year-old has kept a relatively low profile since the early 2000's, releasing Return of the Dragon in 2001 and then lying low until he appeared on Celebrity Big Brother 7 in 2010 and Celebrity Wife Swap in 2013.
