  • Owner and trainer of dog star Rin Tin Tin.
  • The story of Duncan and Rin Tin Tin, the orphaned dog he rescued from a German battlefield during World War I, is told in Susan Orlean's new biography, 'Rin Tin Tin: The Life and the Legend' (Sept. 2011). A short version of the bio appears in The New Yorker magazine, 8/29/ 11, and is entitled 'Dog Star'.
  • Duncan gave Rin Tin Tin's puppies to friends that included Jean Harlow, Greta Garbo and cereal company founder W. K. Kellogg.
  • One of his grandmothers was a Cherokee, and one grandfather had traveled west with Mormon pioneer Brigham Young. His father Grant Duncan left the family and wife Elizabeth, never to be heard from again, when Lee was only age 4 and his sister was age 1.
