Benoît Grey is a Canadian composer, orchestrator and musician. He began his career touring and recording as the bassist for the legendary "Genius of Soul" Ray Charles. He then transitioned to composing and orchestrating for Film, Television, Video Games, and Trailers.
Benoît made an early name for himself as part of the composing team for three wide-release theatrical Pokémon movies, taking on the roles of conductor, lead orchestrator, and synth performer on all three features. Following the success of these films, he was then invited to orchestrate for such major Hollywood films as The Day After Tomorrow, Scary Movie 2, Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny and many more.
Since the mid 2000's, Benoît has focused particular energy on composing. His music has appeared in over 140 TV series including such shows as NFL, Dancing with the Stars, TMZ, Access Hollywood, The Bachelor, Longmire, NBC Sports, Once Upon a Time: The Price of Magic, The Academy Awards, The Tonight Show, and many others. He has also scored many films including cult favorites Jimmy & Judy and Screamers: the Hunting.
Benoît has been musically contributing to the video game music industry for over a decade, orchestrating games such as Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Transformers: The Game, and James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing, among others. He has also contributed his bass-playing skills to Lost Planet 3, Soul Calibur, Advent Rising, Eragon, and other video games.
Benoît has collaborated with prominent pop artists such as Tenacious D, 'N Sync, and Jackson Browne.
He works out of his studio in Los Angeles, California, dividing his time between American projects and ones coming out of his native Canada.
Benoit is on the Board of Directors of the Society of Composers and Lyricists and is the Chairman of the SCL Production Music Committee. He is a professor of Media Composition at Cal State University, Northridge.
