Brett Murray's 24+ years of experience quickly overcomes sound challenges and delivers outstanding tracks. Respected by producers and directors alike for his production sound expertise, he works closely with directors to understand and convey their creative vision while capturing actor performances. Brett's work on "The True Don Quixote" earned the "Best Sound Award" from the New Orleans Film Festival in 2018. Brett is a member of the Cinema Audio Society (CAS) and IATSE Local #479.
Early in life, Brett developed a passion for mixing sound for short films, live music, and theater at his high school Bayside Academy in Daphne, AL. In 1992, he worked on his first feature film, "Under Siege," where he met Sound Mixer Scott Smith, furthering his interest in production sound. Born Brett Jennings Murray in Toledo, OH, he was the son of U.S. Air Force Major General and aerospace CEO James Lore Murray of Newton, N.C., and former beauty contestant Phyllis Jennings Murray of Plains, Ga. The family moved to Point Clear, AL, in 1983 after his father's retirement.
After graduating from high school, Brett apprenticed under Sound Mixer Whit Norris in Atlanta. He attended the Maine Media Workshops & College in 1993, studying film production. Moving to Los Angeles in 1996, he pursued both education and musical interests before returning to the South in 2003, where he now resides in Atlanta, Georgia.
