Jake Weber is set to star in Summerhill, an independent drama for director William Tyler Smith, who co-wrote the script with Julian David Hoxter. Smith also is producing the $12 million film. Ray Manzarek of the Doors will provide the score. The project centers on Summerhill, a British alternative school that students and faculty run together as a community of equals. The students are free to go to class -- or not -- and a spirit of free thought, personal responsibility and democratic ideals prevails. In 1999, the British government threatened to shut the school down, and the students and faculty banded together to fight its closing. They ultimately won their battle against the authorities in a dramatic court case. Summerhill is being executive produced by Morris S. Levy of New York's Mega Films in association with Social Art Prods. The film will shoot in the fall in Suffolk, England, and Carmel, Calif. Weber, who attended Summerhill, next stars in Universal's remake of Dawn of the Dead. He is represented by Gersh Agency and managed by Immortal Entertainment.
