- Rob Van Eyck was born on March 26, 1939 in Scherpenheuvel-Zichem, Flanders, Belgium. He is a director and editor, known for The Afterman (1985), Blue Belgium (2000) and Afterman III: The Global Warming Disaster (2013).
- He rocked Cannes in 1972 by setting fire to his first feature film "Ontbij voor twee" (Breakfast for Two) on the steps of the palace because the festival organizers refused to show the film. No less than 75,000 euros went up in flames in just a few minutes.
- Van Eyck is the first Flemish director to have a film sold abroad. That was the 1985 film "Afterman".
- In 1970, Van Eyck was already alderman of Culture in his hometown of Zichem.
