(1977) He acted in the play, "Mert & Phil," at the St. Nicholas Theater Company in Chicago, Illinois, with Guy Barile, Catherine Goedert, Gerry Lange, and Joanne Good. Crew included Kay Nottbusch (costume designer), and Steven Schacter (director).
(late 1960s - Early 1970s) As a close friend and co-actor in community theatre in Chicago in late 60s-early 70s of Jim Jacobs & Warren Casey - authors of Grease - Joe would host writing sessions at his apt in Old Town Chicago, and contributed his writing skills to edit the script of Grease for Jim & Warren. His knowledge of music from his DJ days helped him contribute to some of the lyrics of Grease as well.
(late 1950s - early 1960s) He was a nationally popular DJ in the early 50s - known as the Mighty Joe Young - he owned his own radio station briefly in Mt Pleasant, IA late 50s. He was a progressive Jazz DJ & unfortunately rural Iowa was not ready for that format, so he was forced to sell the station, moved to St Louis suburbs early 60s, and began work in the Incentive business. He began doing community theatre & thus his love of acting began. As a DJ, he made national headline by riding a motor scooter from coast to coast.
