Ali was born in Al-Daqahliyyah, Egypt. His debut feature documentary as a director and producer, " Captains of Zataari," was screened at 85 film festivals worldwide, premiered at Sundance in 2021, and was long-listed for the 2022 Oscars. Ali directed the official music video for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022 called " Ezz El Arab". Recently, El Arabi was one of the producers for "Goodbye Julia", which premiered at Cannes and was Sudan's main nomination for the Oscars 2023. He is the executive producer for " Arze" which premiered at Tribeca Film festival in 2024. Ali started his career as a war reporter, producing documentaries focusing on topics such as refugee displacement and women and children rights. In 2016, after working for ZDF, Stern TV Germany, and National Geographic in the MENA region, Ali set up Ambient Lights an international film production company based in Cairo, Egypt, and Los Angeles, California. Ali now lives between Cairo and Los Angeles.
