Epix will adapt author Bernard Cornwell's 'Arthurian' trilogy, "The Warlord Chronicles", including "The Winter King", "Excalibur" and "Enemy Of God", showcasing 'magic' as a mixture of coincidence, psychology, primitive technology and illusion falling on the superstitions, religious fundamentalism and intolerance of the era:
"Once upon a time, in a land that was called Britain, these things happened ... well, maybe," said Cornwell. "'The Warlord Trilogy' is my attempt to tell the story of 'Arthur', 'Rex Quondam Rexque Futurus', the 'Once and Future King', although I doubt he ever was a king. I suspect he was a great warlord of the sixth century. 'Nennius', who was one of the earliest historians to mention Arthur, calls him the 'dux bellorum', the 'leader of battles' or 'warlord'..."
"Post-Roman Britain was a difficult time for the native Britons, being threatened by invasion from the Anglo-Saxons in the East and raids from the Irish in the West.

The eighth episode of The Winter King juxtaposes steamy romance with brutal killings and organically moves Arthur’s story into a terrifying terrain. Arthur had married Guinevere, and his services had been conducted by Sansum, the Christian zealot. Arthur had listened to his heart, and soon the forces against him were going to attack, as if to punish him for his decision. Gorfydd, obviously, was the one directly impacted by Arthur’s escape with Guinvere, but Cadwys, Nimue, and Bedwin were going to create problems for Arthur, intentionally and otherwise. The show’s brutal turn is shocking, but when the stakes are this high, nothing else can be expected.
Spoilers Ahead
Why was Morgan not friendly toward Guinevere?
Arthur, after having married Guinevere, reached Caer Cadarn, and it seemed that he was altogether taken in by the pleasures of married life. A week had passed, and Arthur had not tended...

Romance has been subdued so far in the series. There was carnal desire everywhere, but subtle eye glances were missing from The Winter King. The sixth episode adds a little bit of spice to Arthur’s story. In the previous episode, Arthur had to kill Owain, and this episode had us see his angst and regret. He was searching for answers, and he may have put his foot down on the idea of forming the Council of Kings. Convincing King Gorfydd may just bring more trouble into Arthur’s life than he expected. It makes for a calmer episode, but the tension has in no way subsided. One wrong move, and Arthur could jeopardize Britain’s future. Here is a recap of Episode 6:
Spoilers Ahead
How Did Arthur Convince King Gorfydd To Join The ‘Council of Kings’?
Merlin arrived in Dumnonia, and what did he see? Arthur holding Excalibur in his hand,...

There are literally hundreds of films and TV shows about or featuring King Arthur going back well over a century – there are silent films, musicals, animated films, comedies, dramas. You name it, there is a King-Arthur-themed version of it. There are not a small number of “Best of…” lists floating around the internet as well. But how do you know which of the recommendations is really going to scratch your King Arthur-shaped itch?
MGM+’s new series about King Arthur, The Winter King, is a combination of gritty historical fiction and “low” fantasy. It is also fairly grim and violent. But there are lots of different ways to tell a story about King Arthur and his knights, with or without round table, Merlin, the Lady of the Lake and so on. Match #1: Royal Rampage – Winner: Darby Allin
My Thoughts: For those unaware what a “Royal Rampage” match is… well, due to the fact Rampage was taped at the same time as this week’s Blood and Guts episode of Dynamite the show had two rings. Which means the camera misses the majority of the action until the number of men in the ring is whittled down enough. It’s even worse than trying to follow a One ring Royal Rumble! Eventually...

Match #1: TNT Championship – Powerhouse Hobbs def. Rey Fenix
My Thoughts: The very definition of a David vs. Goliath wrestling match, this turned out to be a superb battle between two men who had totally different styles and were totally different sizes. Given the squash matches Hobss has had recently, you’d have expected less of a battle for him against the smaller Fenix but this match was booked brilliantly so that just when you thought that was the case, it wasn’t! I was also pleasantly surprised we didn’t get shenanigans from Qtv either!
My Score: 3.5 out of 5 Match #2: Taya Valkyrie def. Ava Lawless
