We were a bit surprised that Alonso Ruizpalacios‘ La Cocina didn’t shore up at a major film fest in 2023, so it’ll be readying to get out of a kitchen for a prime film festival date in ’24. His fourth feature after Güeros (2014), Museum (2018) and A Cop Movie (2021), this has Rooney Mara in the lead and is based on Arnold Wesker’s stage play (set in 1950s London restaurant and revolves around an affair). Will there be carryover docu-esque elements like his last film? It’s a possibility.

It has to be pretty bizarre working on the Prime Video series "The Boys" sometimes, especially when some of the weirder, grosser Supes come into play. There are Supes with scales, Supes with strange skin, and then, there's The Deep's gills. The Deep, played by Chace Crawford, is a riff on DC's Aquaman, and as a part of his powers, he has large gills on his abdomen that allow him to breathe underwater. Usually, we don't see the gills because he's dressed or in costume, and he's pretty shy about them, but there have been a few moments where The Deep's unique stomach appendages are on display, and they're freaky. They're apparently even pretty freaky when they're not attached to The Deep, as fellow star Laz Alonso discovered when he stumbled upon the prosthetics Crawford wears and curiosity got the better of him.

Marvel Studios is in trouble. The once-mightiest franchise in Hollywood has recently seen a string of box office disappointments, TV shows with poor viewership, and poorer critical receptions. One of the lowest points was "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law." The show was a mess, from its story to its humor, and most of all its VFX. Its meta-humor may have allowed it to poke fun at the problems plaguing Marvel Studios at large with a fourth wall break, but it did nothing to actually fix those problems.
In a new report by Variety about the many issues Marvel is facing, the recent firing of top exec Victoria Alonso is brought up. According to the report, Alonso was a scapegoat for a lack of oversight on script development for Marvel projects. We've known about the VFX crunch plaguing Marvel and how many of its movies are still being written during post-production for a while,...

Visual effects workers for the first time in history will have union representation. On Wednesday, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) announced that Marvel VFX workers successfully passed a National Labor Relations Board (Nlrb) ballot and will now join IATSE.
The vote comes after a supermajority of Marvel’s 50+ internal VFX workers first signed authorization cards with the union on Aug. 7. IATSE says that because Marvel had declined voluntary recognition of the union, a vote with the Nlrb was necessary. With the vote passing, it’s the first time any people who work in the visual effects space across Hollywood will have any sort of representation from a union.
A simple majority of Marvel’s internal VFX staff was required in order to IATSE to represent them, but the union was of course seeking a strong number of votes to strengthen the resolve of the new branch within IATSE.

Abu Dhabi, Nov 18 (Ians) Red Bull driver Max Verstappen outpaced the Mercedes’ George Russell and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in the second practice at the Yas Marina Circuit here on Friday.
One of eight drivers to sit out first practice for various ‘rookie’ runs, Verstappen quickly got up to speed in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to produce a benchmark time of 1m 25.146s on the soft compound tyre.
Russell finished three-tenths back after encountering traffic in the final sector of his push lap on the red-marked rubber.
Leclerc was another tenth adrift in third, followed closely by first-practice pace-setter Lewis Hamilton, Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz.
Alongside Verstappen and Sainz, there were returns to the cockpit for Lando Norris (McLaren), Lance Stroll (Aston Martin), Nicholas Latifi (Williams), Fernando Alonso (Alpine), Mick Schumacher (Haas) and Zhou Guanyu (Alfa Romeo).

Doha, Nov 16 (Ians) With the 2022 FIFA World Cup approaching, the participating teams are all fine-tuning their preparations for the quadrennial gala.
The star-studded Portugal led by Cristiano Ronaldo are the favourites in Group H, but it is by no means a one-horse race, as Uruguay, South Korea and Ghana will all have what it takes to make the competition wide open.
Portugal enter the scene on November 24 by taking on Ghana, then meet Uruguay before their final group game with South Korea.
In 2018, Portugal crashed out in the round of 16 after a 2-1 defeat to Uruguay. And in Brazil in 2014, Portugal suffered a group stage exit despite a 2-1 victory over Ghana. Pushing the timeline backwards further, South Korea enjoyed a shock win over Portugal en route to their history-making success in 2002.

Suzuka (Japan), Oct 8 (Ians) Reigning Formula One champion, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen took the pole position at the Japanese Grand Prix, enhancing his chances of wrapping up the 2022 world title this weekend, as he edged out the Ferrari pair of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in qualifying on Saturday.
The 25-year-old Dutchman led after the opening Q3 runs and his initial time of 1 minute 29.304 seconds was just quick enough to seal top spot. He finishing 0.010 seconds clear of Leclerc and 0.057 seconds up on Sainz, as team-mate Sergio Perez completed the top-four, according to formula1.com.
However, a potential setback awaits Verstappen as the stewards will be taking a look at an incident involving the Dutchman and Lando Norris in the early stages of Q3, after the reigning champion darted left at the exit of 130R on a slow lap, forcing Norris to take avoiding action as the McLaren built up speed.

Berlin (Germany), Oct 6 (Ians) The man Bayer Leverkusen will present this on Thursday afternoon as their new coach has won most of football’s titles as a player.
World Cup winner in 2010, European champion in 2008 and 2012, Champions League winner in 2005 and 2014, taking national titles in Germany and Spain aside from several other silverware and awards; there is no doubt Xabi Alonso was one of football’s greatest.
His acquired reputation as a genius midfield strategist might have helped the 40-year-old Spaniard draw the attention of Leverkusen’s officials and end up with a contract until 2024.
The decision to sack Gerardo Seoane and replace the 43-year-old Swiss with a coaching newcomer might at first glance appear risky.
With Seoane having failed to continuously improve the Bayer team’s mental robustness, it is Alonso’s most pressing challenge to create a change in the players’ mindset.
