Vugar Tahirov is an Azerbaijani filmmaker, cinematographer, and editor who was born in Baku, Azerbaijan. He started practicing the Brazilian martial art Capoeira at the early age of 13. He trained his way up to become a two-time Azerbaijani champion and one-time silver medalist as a teenager. He represented Azerbaijan in the European Championship 2009 in Portugal and two different World Championships in Brazil in 2010 and 2011 respectively. His sports background at Capoeira significantly influenced his interest and passion for cinema. His national team coach Elmar Bayramov, who later became a Film Director and Producer, would often video document the regular training sessions and performances of the national team members at the tournaments, which would eventually lead him to the Filmmaking industry. Tahirov became interested in cinema by working at different fight scenes on film sets of Bayramov as a photographer. These experiences gave him the chance to develop himself as a camera operator and editor. Tahirov's other career in Finance and Entrepreneurship helped him to fund short films where he also worked. Tahirov worked in several different animation short films (The Shadowless People 2022), short films (Let Me Run 2019), documentary films (Mo Better 2023, Sidewalk Stories 2024), feature films (Don Marleone 2017), and music videos as a producer, writer, cameraman from 2015.
