Laura's work in entertainment spans nearly two decades. She cast principals and background performers since 2004.
As an independent casting director, she launched her company by casting the extras, including music video performers, on the Emmy nominated HBO series, Flight of the Conchords.
She is a freelance writer.
As a strong advocate for independent films, she began her affiliation with the Independent Feature Project (IFP) in 1995 as a volunteer. She also served as a member of the Programming Committee for Emerging Narrative at the IFP International Market.
Laura Verbeke graduated with a B.A. from Syracuse University and received an M.A. from New York University. Once a full-time Lecturer in English, she taught writing and film courses, including advanced narrative technique and film theory. Laura is also a trained theater actress who studied and performed for six years.
