Her first husband, Ensign James Frederick Wagner, was a Naval submariner and later a pilot during World War II, having enlisted for six years in December 1940, just one year before America entered the war. Although war had officially ended by November 3, 1945, Wagner was still on Active Duty as a pilot when he was killed when his single-engine, two-seat SNJ Navy training plane crashed. Their daughter, Priscilla Ann Beaulieu, was just 5 months old. Ann met and married Paul Beaulieu in 1948 and he was the only father Priscilla ever knew.
