Luke Losey is a film director, lighting designer and photographer. His work has been seen in avant-garde and mainstream media.

Luke Losey is the son of the film producer Gavrik Losey and the former British ballerina Sally Chesterton, and the grandson of the film director Joseph Losey and the fashion designer Elizabeth Hawes. He is the nephew of the actor, Joshua Losey, and the brother of Marek Losey, who is also a film director. He grew up in Paddington, London, where he attended Hallfield Infants and Junior School in Royal Oak. He then attended Hampstead comprehensive in Camden, North London. Suffering from dyslexia, he left school without qualifications. As a child he was obsessed with science fiction. A chance viewing of Kubrick's 2001 somewhere in the 1970's and the gift of a Brownie camera led to him becoming obsessed with capturing images.

After leaving school he worked as a runner on film sets and for production companies. He worked on Derek Jarman's film Carravagio as the floor runner. He spent much of the late 1980s working as an art department runner/assistant on films, music videos and ads. Involvement in the early rave and squatting scene in north London led to him getting involved in lighting, film projection and theatrical design. This period also cemented his long standing creative friendship with composer Paul Hartnoll (8:58, Orbital).

Luke began directing in the late 90's and is well known for his darkly comic music videos and crafted commercials. Recent work includes 'The clock' starring Cillian Murphy, a surreal Mr Benn fantasy shot in brutalist locations around London.

Luke is focusing on dramatic work having just completed a short film (now in post production) starring Jonathan Pryce called 'one last dance' which is expected on the festival circuit in 2016 and will be scored by Paul Hartnoll, he is also developing a feature project with Jessica Albarn called 'The boy in the Oak' (after her best selling book of the same name), a trailer film (narrated by Jude Law) was completed to raise finance and interest for the project and can be seen online.

I think of my work like celluloid knit-wear. It's got a hand made crafted feel, it would probably keep you warm in winter. Making films and taking picture's is something that started when i was a kid, with my Box Brownie and Super 8mm cameras. My first film was a UFO landing off of Portobello road. The digital age was still years away but i thought my spaceship was pretty convincing.I spent a few good years in the art department before directing, which definitely informs my look and approach. I started to direct in the late 90's with an Orbital vid called 'The Box' starring Tilda Swinton as a lonely alien wondering the London streets. Im still making my films though, the kid with Super 8mm camera got a bit older but he's still here...still watching the skies.
