Unless you’ve been living under a rock, chances are you’ve heard about the numerous Silent Hill projects headed our way, including a new movie from Christophe Gans. It’s a resurrection of sorts for a long-dormant series that hasn’t had a full scale entry since 2012. Sure we had P.T. in 2014, which was a proof-of-concept demo for a Hideo Kojima directed entry titled Silent Hills, but other than that? Nothing. Outside of Silent Hill collaborations with other games, the series started to seem like it was gone for good.
Funny thing is, this wasn’t even the first time Silent Hill was considered dead. In 2004, the masterminds behind the original three games known as “Team Silent” got together and decided to take the series into an experimental new direction. Little did they know, it would be the last Silent Hill game from them, marking the end of an era.

Konami’s brief (and…odd) Silent Hill presentation included a few intriguing announcements and many more unanswered questions. Somewhere at the top of that list of unanswered questions is “Who is Ryukishi07?”
At the end of their recent presentation, Konami aired the first trailer for Silent Hill f: a new Silent Hill game from Neobards Entertainment (the developers of Resident Evil Re:Verse). Unfortunately, the trailer did not give us much to go on. There’s definitely a Midsommar-like folk horror vibe to the whole thing, but this trailer was obviously meant to be as vague as possible.
However, at the end of that preview, we are informed that Silent Hill f‘s story was written by Ryukishi07. That name may or may not ring a bell depending on your preferred reading material, but it turns out that the things we do know about Ryukishi07 may hint at what we can...

Years of rumours and fan desires have been answered at last. Konami’s classic Silent Hill 2 is getting remade, courtesy of Bloober Team. Not only that, but we have several new entries in the series, as well as a new film by Christophe Gans!
Announced today during the Silent Hill Transmission, Konami will be bringing the remake of Silent Hill 2 to PC via Steam and PlayStation 5 first, with Xbox versions arriving later. Masahiro Ito and Akira Yamaoka are back to help development, and the game will offer an over-the-shoulder camera view this time around. And yes, Akira Yamaoka is back once again to score the remake! There’s no release date as of yet, but you can wishlist it now on the PlayStation Store (and Steam).
Along with the remake, Konami also announced a new entry in Silent Hill: Townfall, which is being worked on by Annapurna Interactive and No Code Games.

This week’s Reviewing the Mail begins with a long-distance shout-out to Ellen Wright, who started at Wiley the first week I did, but has since moved up and on to working in Publicity with the fine folks at Orbit Us. My pipeline of Yen Press titles — Yen being the manga arm of Orbit — had dwindled recently, probably because I hadn’t reviewed many of their books in that same period [1], but I now have a batch of them here, and I hope they’ll continue. (Though, again, I imagine I’ll need to review some of those books for Yen to want to keep sending me books — it’s really not difficult to see how this works, if you’re capable of consider other people’s point of view.)
So hooray for Yen, which will be the bulk of this week’s post. But, before I get into that,...
