Marika Kushel is a soap opera editor and associate director who began her career with an internship on the soap Sunset Beach (1997). After graduating from the University of Buffalo in 1999 with a media studies degree in video production, she moved to California and got a series of jobs on several soaps. She is a member of the Directors Guild of America. Her love of soaps dates back to childhood, when she watched Days of Our Lives (1965) and General Hospital (1963). She credits University of Buffalo professor Mary Cassata, whose research focuses on soaps, with helping her start her career.
