Former baseball teammates with opposite outlooks on their dead new world, Ben and Mickey try to survive the living dead and each other in The Battery, the directorial debut from Jeremy Gardner (who also writes and stars). With Scream Factory releasing The Battery on Blu-ray and DVD this week, I chatted with Jeremy and co-star/producer Adam Cronheim about making a memorable zombie movie on a micro-budget.
With zombies being so prevalent in pop culture right now, what angle did you take with The Battery to differentiate it from the horde?
Jeremy Gardner: Zombies tend to go big. They tend to have these broad, cultural relevancies, especially with [George A.] Romero’s themes of militarism, race relations, and consumerism. I wanted to focus on the specific human psyche. To watch one person’s mind slowly wilt under the pressures of the zombie apocalypse. So I figured I would just do both...

I’ve been waiting for this to happen for a long time. I rented/bought the digital copy of Jeremy Gardner’s The Battery a long time ago, and have been raving about it since. It was announced recently that Shout! Factory would be bringing the title home, with one of its modern horror acquisitions under the Scream Factory Banner. Details have been scarce, including when we could expect the release to hit shelves, but Scream Factory have sent out a news blast today, detailing the release, its date, the extras and disc specifics. The title will be available beginning September 16th. And, believe it or not, it is a dollar cheaper to pre-order the title at Shout’s website, than it is to do so on Amazon. You should totally do that, so click here to do so. Below is all of the details you need about the release,...

Word of a new horror anthology film has come our way called The Fear Project, and we have your first look at the trailer for this coming in 2015 fright fest! Read on for that and more details. Go on! You know you wouldn't be here if you had something else to do!
The Fear Project will feature four tales of terror from directors Alex Deck, Owen Mulligan of DeadFi, Dion Cavallaro and Paul Thomas of Freeze Frame Films (The Eidolon State), Douglas A. Plomitallo of ScaredStiffTV, and Kenny Collins of Enter Viral Media.
The Fear Project is a Canadian/American/Australian found footage horror anthology in the vein of V/H/S. It aims to take the idea started by the geniuses behind that film and turn it on its head, presenting gripping psychological horror tales which have a strong contrast to the gory, often overtly violent tones of V/H/S.

The TromaDance film festival makes it into puberty with their 13th annual edition and you won’t want to miss where they’ve grown some hair on May 4-5 at Asbury Lanes in Asbury Park, New Jersey. It’s two days of hormone-fueled short films, voice-changing features and a star-studded panel discussion.
Two features will be screening at the fest: Steven Kostanski‘s VHS throwback action sci-fi horror flick Manborg and the Trost brothers’ dance-fight video game frenzy The Fp.
The rest of TromaDance is stuffed to the gills with disturbing, grotesque and just downright freaky short films, including Greg Hanson‘s garbage disposal love story Sinkhole and Aaron Zegher‘s ghostly I See a Light. Short film blocks are broken down by theme, such as “Monsters,” “Zombies,” “Madness” and an absolutely not-for-kids “Saturday Morning Cartoons” collection.
Plus, on Saturday evening, there will be a panel discussion on the marketing...

Horror is everywhere. You just have to know where to look. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, we are no longer forced to wait for the big film companies to burp out a new horror offering for us (which more often than not is a big letdown). Simply by turning to the web, you can find web series created for the sole purpose of giving you nightmares. And we've recently discovered a great one…Scared Stiff.
Producer Douglas A. Plomitallo has been creating episodes of the Scared Stiff web series for the past three years and now has 25 released with more coming shortly. He recently sent a few episodes to the Dread Central offices for our perusal, and from what we've seen, he's got a quality product.
The films are between 5 and 15 minutes long and have a great "Tales from the Crypt" feel to them with the real jerk-offs...
