Julius Cotter is an Irish actor best known for his roles as the sociopathic drug lord Diosdado in the Prime Video series Silent Cargo / Operación Marea Negra (2024), and as Hugh Fleming in the Spanish domestic noir series, Truth / La Verdad (2018), also on Prime Video.

Screen credits also include the American fantasy drama series Warrior Nun, as the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Spanish crime series Gangs of Galicia, as drug smuggler Sandro (both on Netflix), and the heist action thriller, The Vault, directed by Jaume Balagueró, where he plays opposite Freddie Highmore.

He was born Julius Laurence George Cotter in Dublin, Ireland, but has lived most of his life between England and Spain. His family are of Norse-Gaelic descent, and are ancestors of the Hiberno-Norse King, Óttar of Dublin. From his early days at boarding school, he developed a keen interest in art and acting, appearing in school plays, painting and writing poetry.

Cotter was educated at Allhallows College, Rousden and then at the University of East London where he graduated with a BA Honours Degree in Fine Art and Film Theory. He worked as gallery assistant at the Michael Parkin Fine Art gallery in Motcomb street, Belgravia, London, cataloguing and hanging shows, and later as an Assistant Director for various Production Companies in Spain. Cotter then went on to work in front of the camera and has been an actor since 2010, working in theatre, television, and film in both English and Spanish. He studied the Meisner technique, in Barcelona, with Javier Galitó-Cava (certified by the neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre, New York) and took master classes from Rachael Adler (trained by Sanford Meisner).

During his career he has worked with directors such as Neil Jordan, Stacie Passon, Juanjo Giménez, Esteban Crespo, Denis Rovira, Jaume Balagueró, Rodrigo Cortés and Lucie Borleteau, and with actors such as Robert de Niro, Liam Neeson, Awkwafina, Freddie Highmore, Emma Roberts, Joaquim de Almeida, Natalia Tena, Raúl Arévalo, Lúcia Moniz, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Colm Meaney and Nerea Barros.
