"A lone angel has come to Earth to bear a child. A soul to combat the shadow. His name will be Michael." We've featured a couple of different shorts made by filmmaker Raphael Rogers in the past, including Immersion and Beyond. His latest work is a proof of concept short called Archangel, an attempt at telling the origin story of the archangel Michael. This is surprisingly epic and there's some solid VFX work even though it feels more like a pitch than a finished product that stands on its own, but still, not bad considering this was homemade. Cool costumes. Starring Blair Bomar, Bryan McGowan & Alexander Ward. Take a look. Description from Vimeo: "This is my proof of concept for the origin story of Michael, the great archangel once born to earth, who grew to lead an army against the almighty deceiver Lucifer and his rebel legions." Archangel is directed by Raphael Rogers, who writes in the description that this ...

Why Watch? Joining the slew of excellent, indie, sci-fi short films, Beyond brings us a woman who can survive teleportation. Naturally she has a lust for finding life beyond our own. More than anything, she’s looking for answers. It goes above and, you know, with stunning visions of distant worlds, but it also excels in delivering an intense (if surface-level) performance from Bianca Malinowski that would thrive even more without the voice over narration. It’s a broody adventure that’s unafraid to put its heroine into isolated danger — a thrilling glimpse at something that should become a TV series or feature-length film. Director Raphael Rogers is undoubtedly a talent to watch. What Will It Cost? About 3 minutes. A New Short Film Every Week Day...

"I may be alone. But I'm still searching for the answers beyond that door." Save 10 minutes of your day to take a look at this. Another impressive sci-fi short film has arrived online - Beyond, directed by Raphael Rogers, starring Bianca Malinowski as the last remaining member of a family with the ability to "survive the fracturing of space & time". The concept and story in this one are the most intriguing, but there's also some great VFX work for a film made by two people using After Effects. Rogers says this was made without a crew, "just myself and Bianca." For an indie short this was a fascinating watch and I hope it inspires others. Synopsis from Vimeo (hat tip to GeekTyrant for first finding): Arya is the last remaining member of her family, a lineage with a unique genetic code that grants the ability to survive the folding of temporal and spatial boundaries.

We've got another impressive sci-fi short film for you to check out! This one is called "Beyond," it was directed by Raphael Rogers, and it's a beautifully made film. This is one of those shorts I can see a studio eventually picking up and turning into a feature film. Here's the synopsis:
Arya is the last remaining member of her family, a lineage with a unique genetic code that grants the ability to survive the folding of temporal and spatial boundaries... In short, she can teleport. Tasked with exploring new planets, she is in search of something that will explain who exactly she is and where she comes from.
Now enjoy the short! ...

Writer/director/producer Raphael Rogers and co-creator Bianca Malinowski may be in early pre-production on their full length feature Mu but if their shorts are any indication of what we can expect from a feature, we're in for a treat.
The pair have been working together for some time with Malinowski appearing in, producing and even writing some of their shorts while Rogers handles the effects, cinematography and splits directing duties. Beyond their most recent short, is particularly impressive.
Shot over three days with no crew beyond the two creators, it's a great achievement, an interesting story mixed with beautiful setting which suggests that with a bit of money and a little help, this partnership could yield some impressive work.
