Paul Skillen started out writing radio comedy and was a BBC New Talent Winner. In 2022 he was selected by British Film Institute to attend their flagship talent development programme at London Film Festival and spoke to emerging film makers at the London-Irish Film festival.
His recent short films-'THE FAMILIAR STING' (2020) and 'THE SILENCE BETWEEN' (2022) - deal with issues of homelessness and a musical prodigy from the wrong side of the tracks. Both were funded by NI Screen . Paul has various credits with BBC Radio, BBC Bytesize and developed a series of animations for the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission
His feature screenplays 'THE MUSIC TEACHER' , paranoid thriller 'THE GIRL' and historical biopic 'BELA', are both all in development.
Paul also co-writes with Aaron Gray. 'BELOW', their eco-horror series, produced by Hat Trick-Mercurio, is available on Amazon Audible. It won the Best Fiction at Irish Podcast Awards 2023 and was nominated Best Drama at BBC Audio Awards and Radio Academy ARIAS
Their folk horror feature, MAIDENSANDS, is in development. Other credits include a pre-apocalyptic television pilot 'DINOSAURS' (2016), which was broadcast on RTE, and sci-fi shorts 'THE WAY BACK' and 'ECHOES' which won international awards securing UK and USA broadcasts. In 2022 they were shortlisted for the Element Pictures Writers Award with their TV thriller idea GRAVEYARD SHIFT.
