Doug Curran is a Columbus, Ohio-born music writer and photographer, and a documentary film Producer. He was a radio DJ in the 70s and 80s in Columbus and Westerville, Ohio at WBBY, WOBN, WOSR and WOSU, starting at age 16. He has been a writer and photographer since 1972 for various newspapers, magazines and websites, including Progression magazine, Circus magazine, Blue Moon News, The Lantern, Public Opinion (now Westerville News & Public Opinion), The Scene, River City Rock, The Monthly Planet, The Other Paper, Columbus Monthly, Classic Rock Society, Dutch Progressive Rock Page, Focus, The Odyssey, The Scribe, Rampage, The Quill, and on his Facebook page.

He attended Westerville North High School in the 1970s, and The Ohio State University in the 70s and 80s, majoring in journalism and minoring in broadcasting. He is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists. He is a charter member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland since 1993, and repeatedly pushed for the induction of Yes, Rush, the Moody Blues, Electric Light Orchestra, Genesis, Heart, Pat Benatar, Kraftwerk, The Zombies, Kate Bush, Peter Frampton, and others over the years.

He is the administrator or co-administrator of 13 Facebook groups, about Genesis, Yes, Chris Squire, artist Roger Dean, his Westerville North High School class, and his St. Paul Westerville grade school class. He's a top contributor to the Yes Music Podcast, and to the Where Are They Now-Yes website.

He was a contributing writer, editor and research assistant for the book, 'Uncle Joe's Record Guide: Progressive Rock,' released in Nov. 1989, the 1st book on progressive rock released in the U.S. He then was a contributor to Dave Gallant's books on the band Asia, entitled 'The Heat Goes On,' in 1999, and 'The Heat Goes On, 2nd edition' in 2004. He also contributed the main blurb on the back cover of the 2nd edition.

Curran was a contributor to the Yes DVD documentary, 'Classic Artists: Yes' in 2008, with photos and memorabilia seen in the film and in the bonus features section, and received a thanks credit. He followed as the largest contributor to Jon Kirkman's Yes book entitled 'Time and a Word: The Yes Interviews' in 2013. He is the largest contributor to Kirkman's second Yes book, 'Yes: Dialogue,' published in Feb. 2017, as well as a copy editor. Curran is also a contributor to Kirkman's book on the band Genesis, "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway," published in early 2019. He was the largest contributor of concert photos to Kirkman's 2020 Yes book, 'Tales from Photographic Oceans,' with 50 photos from 1977 to 2019.

He was a large contributor of concert photos and memorabilia to Martin Popoff's 2021 Yes book, 'Yes, a Visual Biography 1968-1981.' The updated version of that book, 'Yes, a Visual Biography volume 1, 1968-1981,' released in Feb. 2022, uses one of Curran's photos of drummer Alan White on the front cover. Popoff's book, 'Yes, a Visual Biography, volume 2, 1982-2022,' includes photos and memorabilia supplied by Curran and was released in May 2022.

Curran is thanked in the autobiography by Bernie Marsden of Whitesnake, 'Where's My Guitar?' in 2017; the autobiography of Dave Cousins of the Strawbs, 'Exorcising Ghosts' in 2014; in the authorized biography of Dream Theater, 'Lifting Shadows' by Rich Wilson in 2008; in the authorized biography of Jethro Tull, 'The Ballad of Jethro Tull' in Dec. 2019; in the ELP book, 'Emerson, Lake & Palmer' in Nov. 2021; in Martin Popoff's book, 'Yes: a Visual Biography 1968-1981,' in June 2021; in the Ian Anderson book, 'Silent Singing' in Dec. 2021; in Martin Popoff's book, 'Yes: A Visual Biography 2, 1982-2022,' in May 2022; in Chris Welch's book, 'Keith Emerson' in Nov. 2022; and in the 2023 John Wetton book, 'An Extraordinary Life.'

Curran's name is sung during the song "Their Names Escape Me" on the limited edition version of the album "X" by Spock's Beard in 2010. He was an Executive Producer of the Spock's Beard album "Brief Nocturnes and Dreamless Sleep" in 2013, and his photo appears in the liner notes booklet.

He is thanked in the Yes UK/Europe winter 2018 tour program, and their US summer 2018 tour program, for his help contributing concert photos to the program. A concert photo of the band Asia taken by Curran in 1982 in Ohio was used on the last page of the liner notes of the 'Wetton/Downes' CD in 2002 on Stallion Records.

Curran is friends with members of Yes, Genesis, Asia, King Crimson, Kansas, Heart, Styx, Dream Theater, Marillion, Foghat, Renaissance, The Zombies, Spock's Beard, Saga, California Guitar Trio, Stick Men, Transatlantic, Liquid Tension Experiment, Lifesigns, Carl Palmer's ELP Legacy, Steve Hackett's band, Strawbs, IO Earth, ProgJect, Tu-Ner, Mastermind and other musicians. He's old friends with artist Roger Dean, and friends with artists Mark Wilkinson and Paul Whitehead. He is in the audience on 43 live albums and concert DVD/Blu-rays, going back to King Crimson in 1974 and Aerosmith in 1978.

Curran is one of the Producers of the 'Romantic Warriors' music documentary film series. 'Canterbury Tales' was released in 2015. 'Krautrock' was released in 2019. 'Krautrock 2' came out in 2021. 'Krautrock 3' was released in Jan. 2025.

He is one of the Producers of the Boris Karloff documentary film, 'Boris Karloff: The Man Behind the Monster,' which played in US theaters in Sept. & Oct. 2021, can be streamed on Amazon Prime and other sites, and was released on DVD & Blu-ray in summer 2022. He's a Producer of it's companion piece, 'Boris Karloff: The Rest of the Story' released in summer 2022 on DVD & Blu-ray. Curran is an Executive Producer on the documentary film, 'Vincent Price: Terror & Art,' now filming for a release in fall 2025 or early 2026, and the documentary film, 'The Chaneys: Hollywood's Horror Dynasty,' now filming for a probable release in 2026. He is a Producer for a planned streaming & DVD 12 part docuseries called Horror Icons, with separate films covering the careers of Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney, Lon Chaney Jr., Peter Lorre, Bela Lugosi, Basil Rathbone, Vincent Price, Universal character actors, Lethal Ladies in the 1930s & 1940s horror films, Berlin silent films in the 1920s, and others, all filming now for release in 2026 or later.

Curran was thanked in the sci-fi documentary film 'In Search of Tomorrow,' released in summer 2022.

Curran was an Executive Producer and contributed photos, memorabilia, and excerpts from one of his '78 Yes interviews, to Kevin Mulryne's book, 'Yes: The Tormato Story,' published in May 2023. Some of his items were also included in the separate color supplement of the book.

Curran contributed photos and memorabilia to a March 2023 magazine "Anderson Rabin and Wakeman," a band also known as Yes featuring Anderson, Rabin and Wakeman. He also contributed writing, photos and memorabilia to the magazine "Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe" released in late March 2024.

He contributed inside information for Stephen Lambe's 2024 article in Prog magazine about the making of the Yes album "90125." He was thanked in Stephen Lambe's book, "Yes 90125 (Rock Classics), published in Aug. 2024, for inside information about Yes in the early 1980s, the writing and recording of the album, and the tours that followed.

Doug and his wife, Stephanie, were Prog-Ducers at ProgStock, the annual 3-day music festival in Rutherford, New Jersey, in Oct. 2024. They are Prog-Ducers for ProgStock to be held in Oct. 2025, in Rutherford, New Jersey.

Curran is an Executive Producer and contributed photos, memorabilia and information to Kevin Mulryne's Yes book, 'Tales from Topographic Oceans listening guide,' published in June 2025. Some of his items were also included in the separate color book supplement.
