The daughter of an Air Force Officer, she majored in English at Lady Sri Ram College For Women, and later graduated in Film and Television from the Xaviers Institute of Communication. Akanksha began directing mainstream national TV commercials around 2017, and worked on brands such as Disney Hotstar, McDonald's, Bumble, Google, Fastrack, Phone Pe, and Instagram. Her work for Dove, titled Chubby Cheeks, which she wrote and directed, earned her a Cannes Lion for Best Branded Content in 2017. Her short films Khaane Mein Kya Hai? and Chhoti garnered over 15 million views on YouTube. In 2019, she won a National Award for the film Amoli - India's first investigative short documentary about child sex trafficking. It was voiced in Hindi by Rajkumar Rao, in English by Vidya Balan, and in Tamil by Kamal Haasan. In 2022, she won her first Cannes Lion Grand Prix for her film The Missing Chapter, made for Whisper, P&G. The same film won her the One Show, Clio, Spikes, Effies, Epica, Abbies, Kyoorious, and London International Awards. Akanksha began exploring long-form content in 2020 by writing dialogues for an Amazon Prime series which is currently in pre-production. More recently, she co-created a show titled Dabba Cartel, slated for a late 2023-24 release on Netflix which is being produced by Excel Entertainment. She has also co-created another show, tentatively titled Troilokya for Open Air Films, and is developing another dark comedy series. She is open to interesting commissioned features and series opportunities.
