Exclusive: The BBC is betting big on season two of Heyday Television’s deepfake spy thriller The Capture, promoting it to the coveted Bank Holiday weekend 9pm slot that in recent years has been occupied by Bodyguard, Peaky Blinders and Vigil.
Deadline can exclusively reveal the scheduling for this year’s August Bank Holiday Sunday, which sees Ben Chanan’s Holliday Grainger-starring six-parter graduate from a Tuesday 9pm slot where it posted average rating of nearly 7.5M viewers per episode and was BBC iPlayer’s most requested new title across all genres of 2019. Season two will drop on U.S. streamer Peacock in November.
Season one’s audience increased through the run and Rebecca Ferguson, BBC Drama Commissioning Editor, said it was this “word of mouth” that partly drove the scheduling decision.
Speaking to Deadline, she credited the show’s sophistication paired with entertainment value as the driving force behind its success.

Amazon Prime's Hanna is closing in on an end date.
The hit drama returns for its third -- and final -- season Wednesday, November 24.
Showrunner David Farr broke the news to Entertainment Weekly, dishing that a three-season run was always in the cards.
Farr (The Night Manager) writes and executive produces.
Hanna is produced by NBCUniversal International Studios, Working Title Television and Amazon Studios.
“I'm absolutely thrilled to be able to give Hanna a third season,” said Farr when the third season was officially ordered.
“When we set out on this journey, I had in my mind a drama that would excavate Hanna's past, challenge her in entirely new ways and answer the question: can she ever belong? I am truly grateful to Amazon and NBCU that we are able to continue that vision."
"I am also deeply indebted to Esmé Creed-Miles and to Mireille Enos for their continuing commitment...

Today is a good day for fans of well-crafted spy dramas with a feminist twist. Amazon Studios has announced that it has ordered a third season of Hanna, its drama starring Esmé Creed-Miles in the titular role initially made famous by Saoirse Ronan, following a “strong global launch.” We were big fans of the second season, which expanded the scope of the coming-of-age thriller for its second outing, bringing in some of the other girls who were trained by Utrax to become assassins. The first two seasons are now available to watch in their entirety on Amazon Prime Video.
Hanna is executive produced by David Farr, who also co-wrote the script for the 2011 feature film, which was directed by Joe Wright and on which the TV series is based. Farr has also previously written the scripts for The Night Manager, another beautifully-shot adaptation that has done well with a global audience.

Exclusive: NBCUniversal International Studios is teaming up with Marcella producer Buccaneer Media and Danish scribe Ingeborg Topsoe on crime-drama series Moths.
Topsoe is riding high following the Berlin Film Festival premiere last week of Scandi crime-drama feature Wildland, which was one of the best-reviewed movies at the festival. She previously collaborated with NBCUniversal’s international TV arm on Hanna.
The premise of Moths is that a young woman in California receives a call that her sister has been found dead of an apparent suicide in Tokyo, where she had been working as a scientific researcher. Thus begins a journey to uncover in death who her sister was in life – and how she both adapted and failed to adapt to her new native land.
Topsoe, who has already written multiple episodes of the eight-episode (8 x 60mins) show, will be in L.A. this week with the studio to discuss the project...

Dermot Mulroney, Anthony Welsh, Severine Howell-Meri, Cherelle Skeete, and newcomer Gianna Kiehl have joined the season 2 cast of Amazon’s Hanna, from NBCUniversal International Studios, Amazon Studios and Working Title Television. They join Esmé Creed-Miles, who returns for the second season in the title role of Hanna along with Mireille Enos, who reprises her role as CIA operative Marissa Wiegler. Filming for Season 2 is underway in the UK and France.
Written by David Farr (The Night Manager), who co-wrote the original film, Hanna is equal parts high-concept thriller and coming-of-age drama. It follows the journey of an extraordinary teenage girl, determined to escape from the grasp of the shadowy Utrax organization and its ruthless agenda. Farr will also direct episodes for the first time this season, along with French director Eva Husson and Icelandic director Ugla Hauksdóttir (Trapped).
Mulroney will play John Carmichael, a former mentor of Marissa’s (Enos) who has taken over the new chapter of the Utrax operation and is determined to see through its ruthless agenda. Welsh will portray the charming and calculated Leo Garner, who is part of the operations team at Utrax, responsible for indoctrinating the trainees. Skeete will play Terri Miller, an up and coming CIA officer who has been recruited to play a crucial role in cultivating the trainees. Howell-Meri will play Helen, and Kiehl will play Jules, joining a wolf pack of all-girl trainees, which includes returning actresses Yasmin Monet Prince as Clara and Áine Rose Daly as Sandy.
Hanna is produced by NBCUniversal International Studios, Working Title Television and Amazon Studios for Amazon Prime Video. Executive producers are Farr, Tom Coan for NBCUniversal International Studios and Andrew Woodhead, Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan for Working Title Television. Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios also serve as executive producers. Laura Hastings-Smith is series producer.

A “pan-European coming-of-age thriller” is how NBCUniversal International Studios executive producer Tom Coan describes Hanna, Amazon Prime’s new drama, which bowed Friday on the streaming service.
Based on Joe Wright’s arty Saoirse Ronan-starring 2011 teen-assassin action fairy tale for Focus Features, the small-screen adaptation — with original co-writer David Farr returning as showrunner — spent several months in 2018 shooting across an array of exotic-sounding international destinations, moving from the studios of Budapest to the snowy mountains and hinterlands of Slovakia to southern Spain and across to the dusty sands of Morocco.

The 2011 film “Hanna” was a delicious surprise. Directed by prestige moviemaker Joe Wright, “Hanna” played like an artist’s frantic attempt to cram in all the wild impulses he wasn’t allowed elsewhere, while retaining a certain fundamental elegance. Saoirse Ronan played a teen trained from childhood to be a killing machine for reasons that never quite become clear. Engaged in cat-and-mouse warfare with Cate Blanchett’s compulsive CIA officer, Ronan’s Hanna sprinted through dazzlingly constructed frames as a propulsive techno score (composed by the Chemical Brothers) blared — and the movie never lost its balance or its control.
That filmic achievement, the ability to remain upright in the midst of mania, is what makes Amazon’s new series adaptation of “Hanna” so disappointing. The new show lacks the glimmering creativity of its source material, and, perversely enough, it manages to feel overstuffed despite its relative lack of inventive flourishes.

Anyone who casts an eye over the long-form dramas premiering at this year’s Berlin Intl. Film Festival can find many series that are ripe for picking by new territories — as well as plenty that have already been pounced on by in-the-know buyers.
Since it launched five years ago, the Berlinale Series program has become a launch pad for European scripted shows. Meanwhile, its Drama Series Days, with Market Screenings framing such series as “Harassment” (pictured) this year, has grown as a financing and acquisitions event at the European Film Market.
“In the current audiovisual landscape, drama series are an important part of our industry,” says Berlinale director Dieter Kosslick. “That’s why we wanted to include them not only at the Efm, but also in our public program.”

Hanna, the stylish 2011 action film which elevated the career of Saoirse Ronan, is set to be adapted as a TV series by Amazon. Amazon’s casting of Joel Kinnaman for Hanna represents a bit of a coup, since the actor’s stock is at its highest point, coming off the recent release of (streaming competitor) Netflix’s sci-fi series, Altered Carbon, on which he stars. However, Kinnaman’s onscreen reunion with his former The Killing police partner, Enos, will likely be an acrimonious one, since they will be depicted as mortal enemies, engaging...
