Amr Gamal (b. 1983, Poland) is an independent theater and film director hailing from Aden, Yemen. In 2005, Gamal founded the Khaleej Aden Theatre Troupe, playing a pivotal role in revitalizing commercial theater in Yemen following the aftermath of the civil war in 1994.
In spring 2018, production commenced for Gamal's debut feature film, "10 Days Before the Wedding," which premiered in Aden during the summer. Remarkably, it became the first film to open commercially in Yemen in over four decades. The film's success extended for over 8 months, earning the distinction of being Yemen's official submission to the 91st Academy Awards.
Fast forward to 2023, Gamal achieved another milestone with his second feature film, "The Burdened," making history as the first Yemeni film to be screened at the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival. Notably, "The Burdened" has been selected as Yemen's submission to the 96th Academy Awards.
Amr Gamal continues to reside and work in Aden, Yemen, leaving an indelible mark on the country's cultural and cinematic landscape.
