With the ability to broadcast live footage to millions of homes from anywhere in the world, news stations are able to provide unprecented levels of coverage for emerging events. This means that even the most distant natural disaster or political occurrence can be on our screens almost instantly.

This easy access to international coverage has meant that we are able to see and feel the impact of catastrophic events, even when they’re taking place in countries we’ll never hope to visit. While this has often made for shocking viewing, it has also meant that large-scale disasters have often been accompanied by significant support from concerned citizens from across the world.
