In late 1998, Terrence Malick release his third film, The Thin Red Line, set during World War II telling the story of a group of American soldiers fighting in the Guadalcanal Campaign in the Pacific Theater of World War II. The film was overshadowed by Saving Private Ryan, also released earlier in 1998, but earned a following in the years since as many critics have analyzed Malick's work even further. The war film has an incredible ensemble cast, including: Sean Penn, Jim Caviezel, Nick Nolte, Elias Koteas, Ben Chaplin, plus John Cusack, Adrien Brody, John C. Reilly, Woody Harrelson, Jared Leto, Miranda Otto, John Travolta and George Clooney.
