When Jon Hamm landed his breakthrough role as Mad Men’s suave ad man Don Draper he was already 36 years old, making him one of the best examples that hard work and talent don’t always lead to immediate success in Hollywood.
With the looks of a Golden Age movie star he struggled to find jobs in an industry where, at the time, leading men looked more boyish then manly. But Mad Men, which debuted in 2007, was set in the early 1960s. Draper and Hamm were the perfect match, and the Missouri-born actor played the part so convincingly, that it was hard to separate him from the chain-smoking, alcoholic womanizer.
Since the award-winning TV series ended two years ago Hamm has been trying to prove he has more range.
