Jane Fonda won her only Emmy for her searing performance as a World War II-era pioneer woman in the acclaimed 1984 telefilm “The Dollmaker.” At that time, she was one of those rare film stars to crossover to television. When she picked up her Emmy, she already had two Best Actress Oscars for “Klute” (1971) and “Coming Home” (1978) on her mantle. Since then, she has reaped four more Emmy bids, including last year for the third season of her Netflix comedy “Grace and Frankie,” but has yet to win again.
She lost her most recent Emmy race to Julie-Louis Dreyfus, who picked up her record sixth consecutive trophy for “Veep.” However, with that political satire taking a hiatus, Fonda could finally pick up a bookend Emmy. She will have formidable competition in the likes of Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Allison Janney (“Mom”) and co-star Lily Tomlin, among others.
