GLAAD Media Awards Honors ‘This Is Us’ As Outstanding Drama Series
The 29th GLAAD Media Awards named NBC’s This Is Us as outstanding drama and Disney’s Andi Mack as outstanding kids & family programming as two highlights of its annual event, held Thursday night at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles.
Recipients were announced in 12 of this year’s 25 media categories. The GLAAD Media Awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the Lgbtq community and the issues that affect their lives. They also fund GLAAD’s work to amplify stories from the Lgbtq community that build support for equality.
GLAAD Media Award nominees were published, released, or broadcast between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017.
GLAAD announced a Special Recognition Award for Jay-z’s song and music video Smile, featuring his mother, Gloria Carter, who used the song to come out as a lesbian, and a Special Recognition Award to the animated short film In A Heartbeat.
