Extraction ended on a bleak note for Chris Hemsworth's mercenary protagonist Tyler Rake. After battling his way across a bridge in order to get young Ovi (Rudhraksh Jaiswal) to safety, he takes a bullet in the neck and plunges into a river. While Extraction's ending was intended to leave Rake's fate ambiguous, the huge streaming numbers it generated for Netflix made an Extraction 2 greenlight inevitable.

Extraction 2 gives Rake some time to heal from his injuries before he gears up for another rescue mission. This one has some personal connections, as his estranged former wife Mia (Olga Kurylenko) tasks Rake with breaking her sister and children out of a Georgian prison.
